I loved St. Anger, took a while to grow on me but its so raw and ggggrrr and you can hear the reverb from the bass in the snare drum. Proper "made-in-a-garage" music, appealed to me for some reason. Death magnetic is pants though, felt like telling Mr Hetfield to SHUT THE HELL UP FOR A BIT AND LET THE PEOPLE WITH TALENT PLAY SOME MUSIC. Wordy git.

I thought I liked St. Anger but every time Lars hit the snare it sounded like someone kicking a tin can down the road.

kill em all without a doubt would be your first album...so raw and new when it came out, heavy fast.and the late cliff burton on bass,my 2nd album would be ride the lightning..if only for the fecking awesome.fade to black.i must of been one of the first brits to see them live, supporting venom in holland.(does anyone remember them??..foad.haha).i think theyve lost there way a touch with later albums but thats just my opionion, but kill em all is the best album by far!!!!!!!!..metal up your arse

I remember Venom, in fact I saw them a few times.

Ah, but its still better than most of the carp they put on err the "Kiss" and "Flava" channels or whatever that shack is called. Give me a reverbing snare drum over a call me maybe any day.

did you ever frequent the hungry years n 80s?..a few of us used to come down from redhill and reigate..ahhh the good old days

Yes I did. From '86 to about '88 on Saturdays. I also used to go to loads of gigs as well. Where you into the other bands around that time like Nuclear Assault, Death Angel, Testament? I recall some local thrash bands as well: Virus and Deathwish.

I frequented the Hungry Years in the 80's until being barred by the mad hispanic owner for smuggling in (unsuccessfully) a bottle of cider! Went back years later and she still recognised me.

Same here. I remember being very drunk, chatting up one young lady and turning round half way through a sentence to throw up a curry I'd had earlier. Not my finest hour. She wasn't impressed either. Had some great and crazy times in there though and met some interesting people and new friends.

If you're new to them go for the Black Album. The earlier ones need some time to get into, esp. if you're not a metalhead. Good luck, you won't be disappointed.

"I've been to Brighton, So What..."

I'll do it.......... so what,so what...... so f*cking what.

Waited 15yrs for that.................I THANK YOU :bowdown::O:bowdown:

For me, seeing Master of Puppets (song) live put that album firmly at the top of my list. So aggressive...amazing.

Have always had a soft spot for Fade To Black on Ride, and I think that the Black album was the last 'great' Metallica album. The later 90's stuff was ok, but I've never really taken any interest in anything after that.

Mind you, everything was better in the 80s - Appetite For Destruction anyone???

Has anyone seen "Some Kind of Monster"? Documentary following them for a year(?) or so as they try to write a new album, get a new bassist, work out their angst through therapy?

I have a lot of respect for their musicianship but jeez, a couple of them (no guesses who) need to get a grip of themselves!

right in order of preference

Master of Puppets,
Kill em all
Ride the Lightening
And justice for all

Anything else is commercial bullshit.

Now if you want a band that has not sold it's soul and still to this day produces absolute quality music, Try Megadeth (and for any of you Metaliica newbies, Dave Mustaine, was one of the founding members of Metallica)

Try listening to the following albums

Peace Sells, but who's buying
So Far, So good, So What
The System has Failed
Killing is my Business, and Business is good
Rust in Peace

Listen to those 5 albums and your life will be complete. :)

You have to buy the EP Garage Days re revisited. Very under rated imo. It's one of my favourite Metallica records.

Anyone remember the English band Xentrix? Used to love their stuff. Would recommend them too if you could find their first 2 albums. And of course Slayer and Sepultura - fantastic if you like the hard stuff.
