I'm shamefully out of touch with the Falmer parking situation. Am I correct in thinking the Sussex university car parking is still going ahead. And where's this Southern Water car park LB mentioned?

There's only one thing for it!
Scrap falmer completely and build a new ground at the cement works

The biggest issue will be for evening games when rush hour traffic meets Uni students meets us lot turning up. Hard to see the slip roads coping very well with that.

Even with another 650 spaces, the numbers are troubling, are they not?

In the original application I think the available 2,000 car parking spaces within 1.5km of the stadium were assumed to cater for 6,000 to 7,000 attendees - ie with an average of 3-4 occupants per car. Bennetts Field has no impact on the number of spaces, it's just a matter of location.
The bus & coach park has a capacity for 60 vehicles - so say 4,000 attendees max assuming there's some double deckers.
If the capacity of the three P&R's are indeed 1,700 vehicles and assuming the same average occupancy as the car parks (very unlikely imo) then that's another 5,000-6,000.
At the absolute best fit this comes to 17,000 leaving 5,500 to use other means.

Who will wait and become horribly pissed. The Constabulary will have a field day ! Not to mention those who will fall in front of trains three hours after final whistle !

Sorry Lord B, I've just never heard you say anything negative about any of the stadium planning applications before?

And why should the Falmer for all team still be in discussions, the stadium is built now and Paul S has got more important things to do like scream at pitch invaders, then invade pitches, then tell us lot on here who are having a laugh to get a life... Etc
I'm not suggesting that there is a role for the FFA team. It was, however, a useful conduit for the Club to flag up and discuss any difficult aspects of the planning process. FFA was chaired by Paul, but he was never the only activist.

It was a highly effective campaign team. I guess the Club now feels that there is nothing more to campaign for. I hope they're right.

Sussex University - yes.

Southern Water - next to the A27 (Brighton-bound carriageway), near the junction of the Lewes-Brighton road (A270) and the Bypass (A27).

What happens if LDC reject the planning app?

1 - Brighton and hove Council change the original planning permission, in which case all it takes is a sad individual to disagree, get legal aid and seek a Judicial review of the decision??

2 - The club find another parking lot, preferably in Bighton and Hove's juristiction, which again will require a sympathetic council. Maybe there actually isn't any other car parks? Or will Tony have to throw a lot of money at someone to persuade them to give up their land?

Looks a bit depressing really..

It's unlikely that LDC will reject the application. Even Falmer Parish Council isn't arguing that it should. The issue is whether the transport arrangements will actually work. If they don't, then we can forget a 30,000 seater stadium, at least for a few years.

Given that despite your views you still think the application will be accepted that's probably why the club are not consulting with FFA team anymore as they don't need any more campaigning and are confident in their plans.

Pity that Stamner Park can't be used on A temporary basis. Or Wild Park.

I share their confidence in the planning process. I just don't think they bargained for the stadium operating at full capacity when the transport plans were first drawn up.

I can foresee the streets of Moulescoomb and Coldean full of matchday car parkers due to the availability of free and plentiful on street parking there, all within 10 minutes walk.

Used to walk and cycle from Varley Halls to Brighton Uni at Falmer was usually about 20mins. Would imagine plenty will do this and park in Coldean.

Dont forget along with the P&R sites, there will also be extra buses put on by the bus company to Falmer Station and back from the city centre including the bendy buses I think. If I remember they hold 140 people per bus so add 20 or so more then times that by the four bendies thats an extra 680 from four buses.

The sensible thing to do would be to knock the stadium down, build a dfs and toys r us there, and build a stadium in Hove. This would solve all of these problems

reading that stuff from LDC and Falmer Council, I think it is entirely reasonable. Obviously they will need to see how it all goes with regards to getting people away and to the stadium, and it will be interesting to see how this all pans out. In my case, I will be getting to the Village way to get to Esporta ( soon to be Virgin) club around 12 ish as we have a pilates class which I have to do, BUT not only people getting to the club for classes, you also have certainly for the first month or so people needing acces to Brighton Uni for football and cricket games behind Falmer School, and also netball and american football games on teh astro turf......so there will be lots of people trying to get down village way on a match day - especially if those games start at 2 or 3 o'clock.

certainly for those who come from the West, even now, at times, pulling up the slip road to get on to the Woodingdean road can be a long and frustrating business and that is before you get the falmer traffic.

having said that, anyone who thought building a stadium out of town would not have transport issues when most people WANT to drive and park close by ( Yes I know lots want to go by train etc) were kidding themselves.

ed has it dead right.
