Sure, he may knuckle down and get on with it, but I can't see him relishing replacing Duffy as 4th. choice CB.

Duffy is our first reserve CB is he not? Burn has barely played CB all season. At the end of the day, White has a contract here, and I’m sure we could offer him more money if needed. If he leaves it will be to a top 4 club.

We are not a selling club anymore, and certainly we shouldn’t even consider selling him to Leeds at any price, if they don’t have him next season it substantially weakens Leeds survival chances. If Liverpool came in with some crazy money, I’d accept that as a reasonable fee and a good move for him.

If Liverpool did want Ben White to join a defence of VVD, TAA, Robertson and Gomez and offered a fortune I don't think we could hold him back.
Every player has his price and Liverpool are one of a few clubs that could match Brighton's price (whatever that may be).

I don't see a chance of how he'll be back at Leeds.

To help them with their annual struggle to get into the EPL, again?

I never suggested anywhere that we should sell him to Leeds - not even a consideration.

Never minded leeds, yes many of their fans are holding onto the entitlement of history but we have clubs in this division right now whose fans are far, far worse.

From a quick glance around though, they do seem quite blissfully out of touch with a league they have been absent from for so many years. To even entertain the thought for more than a second, that we would (presumably either out of blatant mismanagement or under some kind of duress) sell/loan Ben White, one of our most highly regarded academy prospects and contracted for 5 years, to a club that will undoubtedly contest a position in the league similar to ourselves next season, is verging on utter madness.

Leeds fan here who's followed Brighton since Potter joined. Really like his style of football and what he's trying to do at the club.

Not a chance he leaves if we're promoted. If we stay in the Championship he'll go and we're in real trouble.

White embarrassed the best striker in the league on saturday and he's been by far the best defender in the championship this year. His awareness and reading of the game is superb - you don't need to be a 6'2 shithouse to be a centre half now.

He's played at defensive midfield a couple of times for us and he's not been as effective. Then again, we have the best defensive midfielder in the league. He's a fantastic centre half so I'm amazed you'd want to move him.

Weird considering he's played in a two this entire season and he's been absolutely incredible. I've seen Webster play before and I honestly think Ben White is better. He's genuinely the real deal and will be a England centre half. I can't express how good he is.

I hope you're wrong. Liverpool have followed him all season at ER (their scout is an ex centre half of ours) and whilst I hope he'll sign for us, I'm one of the few fans who think he'd go to Liverpool. We're in hope that he'd want to continue under Bielsa rather than sit on the bench at Liverpool.

I lol'd.

Welcome, and an early welcome back upstairs. There is no way it isn't happening now.

The White situation is pretty straightforward given the snippets from those in charge here.

He'll be coming back and fighting for a place in the first team. If he is up to this level, as is highly likely, it's hard to see that he won't be a regular feature. The strength of Albion's defence has been key to any potential survival though so he's not a certainty. This is all, of course, dependant on us staying up.

If Albion go down his contract may go elsewhere but subject to a substantial and suitable bid. The highest price ever paid for a Championship defender contract was £20m. (By Albion last year). The highest price paid overall was £31m for Moussa Sissoko, who had come down from the EPL. It's hard to see another club reaching the evaluation. He'll certainly be a record signing of this type if it happens.

So, if we stay up he's probably staying here. Any club willing to go to £40m+ will be from the elite. They need to be sure he will be a regular feature in their starting XI. That's a big gamble for a player who hasn't played at this level and in this climate. No EPL club has ever paid that sort of money and loaned a player out before. (Andy Carroll was eventually loaned out because, well, we know the madness of that one).

I think Leeds United have seen the last of him. Unless it doesn't work out elsewhere. And unless Albion go down and Leeds are willing to smash all records and then some.

Thank you Bielsa. You got Leeds United promoted very much on the back of this lad and one or two others. And thanks for helping Albion in the process. Win, win.

Liverpool do need someone to play alongside Van Dijk and a player like White would probably fit the bill but not necessarily immediately so his choices could be Leeds(sell at £40m - first team football guaranteed), Liverpool (sell at £50m + and a period of transition - maybe one more season on loan to Leeds in the PL) or us (we don't sell and he slots in alongside Dunk and Webster somehow).....hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Do you seriously think that Liverpool would pay 50m for a player who has had three quarters of a good season the Championship?

As other have said on here, we have no idea at all whether he'll be able to cut it at the top level. Let's keep things in perspective....

Ben White

From what I have read most of the Leeds fans commenting are struggling with the concept of a club like little old Brighton using them as a stepping stone to developing players for our first team.

There is going to be a rude awakening when they arrive ‘back where they belong’. Reminds me very much of the Villa fans who could not understand why Maupay chose Brighton over them.

Leeds fans seem determined that the priority this summer is keeping both White and Bielsa. Im hoping only one of those happens and White returns to Brighton and Bielsa stays. I then want Bielsa to go up against Guardiola/Klopp and be on receipt of a 9-0 drubbing, have a hissy fit, resign or be sacked and then Leeds to be relegated for another 15 years.

All of this Leeds drum banging is really winding me up, they have no idea that the PL is a different ball game since they were last in it. Money now talks and while there is a huge divide between Champ and PL there is also a gulf between lower prem and top 6. They seem to think they'll slip back into the CL with ease.

White is a Brighton player but they have no interest in hearing that!

I’m just putting this out there as well, obviously Ben White has had a fantastic breakthrough season but I think we need to be very careful, the championship is different gravy to this league and he is totally unproven, he has the attributes but Mitrovic is probably the best striker in the championship... dealing with Aguero, Kane, Sterling, Salah ect is a whole different ballgame.

The Leeds Press simply wind up their readers by speculating endlessly about White. One day they quote someone who suggests there is a glimmer of hope that he will sign permanently, the next someone is quoted as saying that there is no chance, usually because of interest from Liverpool....
The articles scarcely mention that Albion may wish to retain his services and that the loan contract has been fully honoured.
That narrative is disrespectful to our club - and poor journalism.

TBF, of late I've seen a lot of Leeds supporters wanting to keep White (fair enough), but very few actually thinking that they will.

I think that's right - but please tell me in what way do you think of it as 'fair'? Isn't it just realistic?

can't find the comment complimenting me on my comments on here in both our league one glory days ;) can't say as i recognise many of the names here nowadays, but i have come back and read here every so often, until white our paths have not had cause to cross for some time.

the comment about ben white being our best player this season he isn't, you lot would do yourselves all a favour to stop reading trashy football websites and bored teenagers gobbing off online and churning out these comments. that said i know there are issues with the salary he has from bha nothing that can't be solved with a few zeros i am sure. he has been a decent player, but he has a long way to go to be a premier league starter, surely makes most sense for you to loan him out again next season to whoever is challenging at top of championship then.
