Bell Cheeses at work

Recently started a new job and its brilliant, great team and great people throughout the business plus some excellent opportunities etc etc.

In my team, it's predominantly male, average age of mine, which is late 20's. All top blokes, BUT...when it comes to football, complete bell cheeses.

After finding out I support Brighton, attend regularly etc they just didn't want to know. All of them support the typical plastic clubs of Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Man Utd. They all just talk about the top 6, and take the piss out of the three of us who support other clubs. Arrogance of the highest order.

It got so bad on Thursday that I had to really bite my tongue when talking to the Arsenal fan across from me, he was worried about their season, we had some banter, as they've had a torrid time playing us, then him and the SPURS fan, both agreed that he should be more worried because 'Brighton are expected to be down there, we shouldn't normally lose against teams like you'...AH the #teamslikebrighton again, but for some reason, it really pissed me off.

Why are these fans of the plastic clubs so arrogant?? I know that's an obvious answer, but I just don't get it, surely being a fan of a club is also being a fan of the sport, ie taking an interest in the other leagues and clubs around them. All they talk about is the clubs around them in the league and when they will next play each other etc. It's boring, I don't bother getting involved anymore.

Another thing, our director is a massive Liverpool fan so much so, he uses quotes from Klopp to motivate us during our weekly meeting and he's had a picture of Klopp painted on one of the walls next to one of his old quotes. Bellcheese.

Funny thing about all of this, I can have a good chat with the Palace fan in our team about football and I feel we have way more in common, despite hating his club. He thinks the same as me too haha.

Yep. I regularly use this one, plus a plethora of other backdrops. When our systems go down (quite a regular occurrance), I adopt a nuclear explosion as my background. Other favourites are classic album covers, the Tardis console room (old style), the AMEX, old computer BSOD's and so on.

Enjoying perusing this again and a good bell cheese situation appeared at the office this week.

Like many, I have been working from home since March but have been going into the office once a week since September. My employer is pretty relaxed about this and it is left to the individual to decide whether to come in.

Most don’t and our large open plan office is pretty empty (5% max out of 200 desks on the floor). Despite this, there is a one way system in place as you come out of the lifts. There are 4 doors from the lifts (which are in the middle of the floor) left and right on either side.

Because there are so few people, everyone ignores the one way system (including the CEO) and goes through the door which takes them closest to their desk. Except one guy who religiously follows the rules and walks three quarters of the way round the empty office to get to his desk. It’s ridiculous - the office looks like the Marie Celeste but he insists on following the rules which were obviously put in place assuming full office occupation.

Question is. Is he the bell cheese or is it the rest of us for not following the rules?

Ask the Kloppster how many times he’s been to Anfield.....in a team meeting.

It’s one of the downsides of being in the Prem. I have mates who are Leeds, Villa and Palace. I should hate them all, but would far rather talk to them about football than any fan of a top 6 club, who all rarely go to games, and have no clue about football outside the top 6 mini league. One Liverpool fan genuinely baffled why we hadn’t ‘just spent loads of money on a decent striker’.

There are varying degrees of "supporters" where I work. There's actually only 5 of us that like football. Me, 30+ years supporting Albion and always been a middle of the road supporter, I go when I can and follow team news etc quite closely.
My boss, also Brighton, but regularly asks me questions about Liverpool or City and would rather watch either of those than Brighton on TV.
Old guy in the office who, when I spoke to him the other day, didn't know who Andone or Izquierdo were. Could probably only name a couple of players but enjoys watching us play.
An Aberdeen fan who follows Brighton because of his son. Very knowledgeable about all things football even though he's into monkey tennis. My go to guy for football chats.
And an Arsenal fan who never knows who Arsenal are playing that week and who used to support Spurs, so his opinion isn't even an opinion.

It could be argued (for another day though) that the most knowledgeable fans are the ones OUTSIDE of the Premier League.

In that you could have a decent chat with a Cov, Preston, Brentford, whoever fan and talk football for hours and they 'get it' whereas fans of the big boys in the Premier League (the ones who don't go in the main ever and support from afar) don't know jack. This is based on nothing apart from chats over the years from meeting people wherever who support non-Premier league clubs.

nothing to do with idiots at work I know, so I'll get off the thread!

Given that office Christmas parties seem to be happening via zoom this year, the potential for bellcheesery is VAST. Anyone got any gems so far?

We were asked to do a set of questions for a quiz we could all do on our virtual party. I sent in one question. Do we want to end this call now? Yes or Yes. Apparently my director wasn't impressed.

Only benefit is they're sending out even more free beer for us to drink.
