Clearly someone somewhere is reading these threads, as I also have some good news to report.

1. The programme manager who has made my life hell for the last 6 months by blocking pretty much every development I raise, making my job almost impossible, is leaving to " pursue other opportunities".
2. The newbie has been moved away from me, still close enough to talk to/at me, but far enough that I am not in the direct line of fire.
3. The "have you read my email" developer, is being moved to another project so will no longer have to converse with my boss.

So keep going everyone else, there is light at the end of the tunnel....... hopefully.

I love this whole thread, better than an episode of The Office. I am waiting for the day, though, when two posters who are in the same office start posting about each other being bellends without realising it.

I work with a complete and utter coch of a man. But he's not a colleague, he's my boss. There are so many things he does that just annoy the **** out of EVERYONE, but as he's the boss, no one can or will say anything. Except me. Only yesterday we had a MASSSIVE stand up row that nearly came to blows because I filled in some paperwork with a blue pen. Yes, a BLUE pen.

I should write a HUGE post on here detailing all of his BELL-END-ERY but I haven't got time right now as he's on my case demanding to know why I stacked those boxes of parts on the shelf that way. For the record, you can actually fit MORE boxes on the shelf my way so saves space. But because it's not HIS way it's not right so I've got to take them all off, and put them back on HIS way.

It's shouldn't be a problem as its gonna take 20 odd minutes and I'm on X1.5 overtime rate. It's just so ******* frustrating working with such a ****. Everyone else here is a good laugh, if it wasn't for the coch in charge this would be a FANTASTIC place to work.

GOOD NEWS for me, I was on holiday for 2 weeks and came back yesterday (that's not the good bit) but the day before I left we had a desk move, I didn't really get time to fully assess the situation before I went away especially as not everyone had moved. After two days back I can confirm things are looking up for the following reasons:

- I've managed to BAG a desk with my back to the window, away from anyone walking past, this was actually decided by the flip of a coin (I do have sympathy with the other guy but not enough to give up my seat).
- I'm now sitting with my team, developers who have a similar attitude to me and don't do GOSSIP. Previously I was in amongst the NOISE having to endure all the nonsense conversations close-up
- The new desks used to be occupied by some of the LOUD crowd, specifically the CACKLING fat woman, they've now moved to a different office
- I'm further away from the DOGS, so they barely cause me any disturbance (although one of them was barking a few minutes ago)

Work is suddenly a happier place

I'm delighted for you both. No, really. Delighted.

I still just cannot get my head round people being allowed to bring their DOGS with them to work, that just seems utterly bizarre to me. I'd go disco mental if I had to share an office with someones smelly mangey mutt all day.

I think it must be some sort of trend. After the Paris attack, I read somewhere that the Charlie Hebdo offices have an office dog.

I seem to work in quite an agreeable office enviroment , though that could be that there are very few women here.

What gets my goat though , is the weekly conference call I have to go on, where there is a heavy breather who hasn't worked out how to mute his phone. Either the bloke his having a heart attack, or he is enjoying the call more than he ought to.

I can't believe how funny some of this is. I genuinely can't think of anything like this at my place. Its all rather pleasant and no weirdos really.

Out of curiosity, how many tech guys do we have on NSC?

I'm a SQL Dev and I'm pretty sure Two Choices Tom is as well. Reading this thread there seems to be a lot of devs on this glorious board of ours.

General dishwasher and dogsbody / IT manager and broadcast technician for a radio station group.

Previous to that I was "engineering manager" in a medical IT firm which basically meant I had to do everything, was certified as a MSSQL DBA and IIS admin but that was just a tiny bit of it.

I'm studying for the MCSA at the moment; ******* hard. Got five exams to take before I can move into a BI developer role.

Business Analyst for an online travel agent in Gatwick.

Not a huge company, but does seem to attract more than it's fair share of weirdos. Happily the MI analyst who used to be a nightclub bouncer and kept a large knife in his desk, has moved on to pastures new......

It's some management consultancy bollocks isn't it? I'd imagine it increases 'employee engagement.'

I go ****ing mental if there was a dog in the office.

Any one I don't like at my place of work I get to get in a ring with them and repeatedly punch them. I like everyone i'm with on a daily basis though, it's just the odd visitor now and then!

I used to work with one of these and had exactly the same visions to the point where it was suggested by my boss that I take the call more seriously in future or they'd find someone else to do my job.

In a more general context I am flabbergasted by the percentage of people who actually haven't worked out how to talk into a phone at the right distance away from the microphone.

As you've probably worked out I'm a software developer, mainly working on .NET applications as a contractor, currently updating a particularly clunky WinForms application at a company in Ringmer. What's refreshing about this place is that the other developers are decent guys, as opposed to the utter TWUNTS at the investment company in The City I was at for 18 months.

Noise machine starts at 10
Crisp monster is downstairs making tea.

(I used to run software houses across various sectors, now happily retired - i do feel for some of you, i really do)

I worked with 7 developers on my team there and I'd work with NONE of them again. It really was a full house, we had:

3 Indian guys, two of them seemed to think they were running the show, one especially who would talk louder and LOUDER to get his point across (I'm sure this is a cultural thing, I've worked with Indians who were like that before). The other one barely spoke, getting information out of him was like getting blood out of a stone.
A guy from Essex who was decent but gave the impression that he didn't know what day of the week it was and lived in his own little world.
A posh guy who had his own company on the side and spent about 70% of his time (this is no exaggeration) either on the phone dealing with his company, talking to his wife or doing anything on the internet that wasn't work based (I know I'm being slightly hypocritical with that). He didn't even last the 6 months of his contract.
A Pakistani guy who was a devout Muslim, I've got no issue with that but he seemed to have very little knowledge of British culture despite growing up here. He was fine when he started but after 2 months decided that he knew it all and tried to tell me how to do my job.
One guy that I got on with really well socially but he was so keen on using the absolute latest coding technique that every time he made changes he would re-engineer the code and the rest of us would have to spend hours trying to decipher what he'd done. He also insulted my slightly more simplistic and understandable approach to coding (he accidentally sent an IM to me instead of another guy), we didn't talk much after that.

My boss was nice though, I'd happily work with him again and I think he largely agreed with me about the rest of the team (although he did hire them all).

Oh and of course there's the woman from another team who used to sit next to me, the whole reason I got on to this thread...

I manage a large team of Indians, who build test environments for a large Bank. All work I used to do myself, but the Indians do it for 25% of the cost.

I am a router/network/security engineer. Current contract ends at the end of this month, so if anybody knows of something local to Bright, let me know.
