Good.

The Beckham circus has f***ed up enough major tournaments for England, let's not ruin GBs only appearance.

If the Olympics is about amateurism, having u23s is about as close as you can get in football terms.

Remember Germany 2006, that was the biggest circus of them all.

Gutted for him, pretty sure he would of shown great pride in representing Great Britain. more so than Micah Richards without a doubt.

Not as gutted as I was when the twat got sent off playing for England. I'm sure he'll get over it.

Pretty harsh, a Silly red card at the time seemed very OTT from the referee. without a doubt made up for it by carrying England into most major tournements under his captancey.

I've never really paid attention towards the Football at the Olympics, there is always players you've never seen or heard off. If we're serious about winning the Gold Medal, then Beckham shouldn't have priority of being named in the squad and Pearce has made a very good decision. IMO.

That is easily overcome just stipulate that nobody who has played in a countries major division ie. Prem, La Liga and the South American equivalent etc can take part.

I used to be amateurs only. That rule got changed, though.

I really feel for him. Of course it should be done on merit, but that doesn't stop you feeling for the guy.

His response was stoic and respectful - "britain's biggest supporter" - and I believe him.

Those slagging him off on here are just showing sour grapes. The guy has done what has been asked of him to win the Olympics and try and win the World Cup tournament. He has made mistakes in the past - who hasn't?

As for Olympic football. I don't believe it should be in there. Other sports have been marginalised to include a sport that didn't need the global coverage. But hey, that's politics,

Not harsh at all. A silly petulant kick that let this country down. And I'm sorry that I can't feel gutted for a multimillionaire who's been fortunate to have a life we could only ever dream of.

One Mistake. your a very harsh man. In my opinion he more than made up for that mistake. I cant argue with the point about the life he has lead, but I may be blinded, but I see him at the Olympics not for the money but the real desire and passion to play for Team GB, thats why i feel gutted for him as I doubt many in the final squad OR outside the squad carry the same passion.

Those born without a silver spoon in their mouths are born with the same opportunity to dream. He wasn't born into wealth, he created that with dedication and hard work. Nothing really fortunate about it.

So you not fortunate to be born with ability. I could have trained every day of my life and I'd still a Sunday park footballer, someone who loses on average 5 balls every round of golf, not be able to hit ball of the square at cricket and any other sport I took up.

There is no true amateur sport at the top level in any sport, whether it be football, athletics, show jumping anything, all the top sports stars are sponsored to be able to take part just look at Paula Radcliffe as an example.

Born with ability... Now that's a debate for another day, but I will quote a piece from an interesting website: "It is impossible to be a “born great” athlete; we become a great athlete through proper training, motivation, and through our environment. In order to reach the top, you must be dedicated and do whatever you must to reach the top. Like the old saying goes, “you can do anything you want to do if you work hard to achieve it” is very accurate in describing the effects of nurture on becoming a great athlete."

Anyway... I digress.
