My housemate has tickets. I was under the impression they were sold out.

Joke decision. f*** Micah Richards. And Craig Bellamy, while we're at it. What is that prick going for anyway?

Beckham not being selected is an absolute farce.

On the radio yesterday (PM on radio 4) they said there are more than a million tickets left for the football.

I would love to know what Sebastian Coe's reaction to this was.

Becks in the Olympics would have been a huge marketing opportunity. AND he deserved to be in that squad - certainly ahead of Bellamy.

Very odd decision.

I can't wait until Beckham retires (officially). Although he probably never will, he'll probably still be touting himself for selection for things on his deathbed.

Craig Bellamy in, Beckham out eh? I know which one I'd like my kids to model themselves on - another humiliation for one of our greatest sporting ambassadors and performers ever. Apart from that silly flick against Argentina what has he ever donme to deseve such treatment, whu put him in 35 if he wasn't going to be involved? Frankly speaking though, who seriously gives a f***, there's enough English in the squad to ensure a penalty elimination and do we honestly think our under 23's will get near the South Americans?
Like tennis, these millionaires have no place in The Olympics, IMHO....

Three over 23 players are Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards.

It's an 18 man squad, you're allowed three players over 23. I would have thought Beckham would have been a better choice than Bellamy. I guess Pearce doesn't agree.[/QUOTE]

What do you expect from him and some people even suggested the muppet should be Englands next manager. By including Bellamy and Giggs he is just bowing to the Welsh FA and to be seen to be fair. There are a lot better players in England than those, both under and over 23..

totally agree, strange how Giggs on occaision could not be bothered to turn out for Wales though.

Love the Olympic Games , always have , great drama , great stories , great feats , plus some not so interesting sports to some but it is the Olympic Games not the David Beckham Focused Games so I for one am very pleased he has been ommited . Perhaps now he will finally drift away with his pouting miserable fizzog Mrs and count his pile of ' sold out ' to top class football dollars, bye.

It's faster, higher, stronger, not famous, glamorous, deserving. It would have been nice to see him play (I've been lucky and will be seeing one of the GB games) but I was always under the impression that the manager picked the squad, and took responsibility for those selections, not the press, and certainly not the players.

It would insult the Olympics to pick people for tournaments on sentimental grounds - you send the best squad possible. Pearce hasn't picked him - that's it, game over. But as usual, typical of our attitude in Britain, rather than talk about the players who are going, we talk about the most famous one who isn't.

Pearce has shown real managerial potential in not selecting Beckam, who was picked out by Seb and Coe to provide additional interest and sell seats.Pearce has to put together a team to represent this country,Beckem has played in an American league for about five years and to expect him to turn out several times in a short period of time is just unreal, many managers would have been affected by the pressure to include him, so i congratulate Pearce on his decision which was for footbal reasons.
