SHOREHAM BY SEA
No sure they were supposed to be but it happened quite a few times as I said they were not sure of where they should have been.

Lopez does look a little boy lost sometime...Orlandi seemed off the pace...maybe put tht one down to being out for a few weeks..problem was tht with the team off the boil there was no hiding any player who wasnt up to the mark

A pro-Barnes thread? But my understanding from the NSC intelligentsia is that he's a League 2 player who should f*** off? Heresy!!!:ban:

Isn't it funny how those who so delight in being vocal when we're losing fail to see that the players they slag off when we're winning might actually be the answer. Dicker=forward passing. Will he misplace some? Yes, because it's a riskier pass. Is it more likely to create a chance? Again, yes, and exactly what the moaners want. Barnes=defensive structure+goal threat. Was he on poor form? Yes, he probably didn't merit a starting spot and got dropped. But lo and behold we start leaking goals and can't hit a barn door, because he's the link-up man in the hole and the defensive cover all at once. Never mind, Lopez is shit, El-Abd's slow, Hammond doesn't care, CMS is a headless chicken, Gus out etc etc etc.

Lopez was disappointing on Saturday which was a bit odd as in the previous game I thought he'd finally settled in.

As for Barnes, he made a difference when he came on and when he plays in that more central role I think he could actually be better as a box to box midfielder. He defends well, tracks back and tackles, plus (regardless of what his myopic detractors say) he is capable of some really good link up play.

The problem is that when he hits a patch of bad form, Gus refuses to drop him and that makes it easy for people to slag him off.

One other thing, I met him the other day at the kids do, and (again contrary to all this bad attitude bollocks) he was a really nice guy, incredibly polite and really making an effort with the kids. This reiterates what my missus said to me previously, as the players use the Virgin Active gym, and she reckons he's the politest one of them all (and he's not even the one she fancies).

Since when does being polite make you a good footballer?
Whatever his demeanor off the pitch (which judging by tour comment is good) I still think he's out of his depth - too slow no turn of pace and weak and has no idea on how to lose markers in and around the area, but thats my opinion.

Er.......I'm not saying that being polite means he's a good footballer........ A few posts (not in this thread) have mentioned that he has a bad attitude off the field.

ALthough IMO he is a good footballer :)

Think Barnes will be back in for a while now:)

Interesting to see if he starts when Buckley is fit. He played the right attacker role today which he did well but surely Buckley is a better option?
Move him to the left? Harsh on Lua Lua
Can't see a change in formation so will be interesting to see what happens when all 3 are fit.
