How is that more important than transport to the people of Great Britain? Let the South-Africans worry about that!

Whatever your views on that, my point is that it is nonsense that only the most important issue in the world should be worthy of consideration - just because other issues are more important than animal killing, this does not make it unimportant.

I just don't buy the "there are more important things than fox hunting" line as a defence.

I'm going to convince myself that you are joking although I know you are not. :nono:

You win the most ill informed, narrow minded, bigotted and obscene post of the day award.

Erm, are you genuinely trying to tell me that you worry more about the Aids crisis in AFRICA, than you do about local issues that concern you and I on a daily basis?

That's not even vaguely the point - go back and read the original post being referred to. I was making a statement about dealing with issues in order of their perceived importance, whether you worry about them or not has nothing to do with the point I was making about fox-hunting.

That is exactly what I am saying. The suggestion that local transport is more important than the suffering of thousands of blameless children is, IMHO, ludicrous and obscene.

Out of sight, out of mind, eh? I pity you. :nono:

I'm a veggie for 2 reasons
1 I couldn't kill the animals myself
2 People pick and choose what animal they eat. eg cows and sheep but not cats and dogs because they are cute.
I am a hypocryte because I wear leather trainers but I have now decided to stop wearing them. (when I find a veggie pair in Tunbridge Wells or the net.)

You pity me because I care more about local issues than the plight of African kids?

'Fraid we can't all be as worthy as you Cornholio, I guess you're be giving up your season ticket this year to go on "mercy missions" to far flung countries? :nono:

Reading the arguments on here, it clear that banning fox hunting is only important to the majority of you because of who does the hunting. The bigotry here is quite exceptional and seems to be motivated by hatred of something you can't understand, and by extension, the people who do it.

Its interesting that you all seem to support the idea that you are right to want to impose a stadium on the people of Falmer while stopping them going hunting if they want to.

I suggest you all refrain from any more posting on this subject until you have reread Harper Lee and applied some objective analysis to these questions

I'm not even going to dignify that with a response.

Actually, I will. At no stage did I claim to be a do gooder - I am as guilty as everyone else of not doing anything to help.

But if, hand on heart, you can tell me that if you were offered a choice between solving the South East's transport problems or curing 1000's of kids - you'd choose the transport, then I really do pity you.

Views like that are the reason there are so many problems in the world. I'm alright Jack - sod the rest of you.

I, like many people on here I'm sure, have read Harper Lee. This is why so many people have a problem with the 'Countryside Alliance'. Always taking the moral high ground. Ironic, when there is nothing moral about chasing an animal to exhuastion before having it ripped to shreds.

And, IMHO, citing Harper Lee is in very bad taste. Are you comparing the plight of the Countryside Alliance to the plight of negroes in early 20th Century America? Playing the 'Posh Card'?

Just because you claim bigotism, doesn't make it so. The vast majority of anti hunt supporters are appalled by the cruelty and fed up of the lame arguments in support. We are not all Kitten.

Damn, used quote instead of edit.

Bollocks, quite frankly. I don't care who it is doing it, only the fact that they do it - they can be any 'class', they can be my next neighbour, they can be my family - it makes no odds to the surely indisputable fact that killing animals for one's own titilation is utterly wrong.

What have these two things got to do with each other? One is about planning and enviromental issues, one is associated with issues around animal cruelty. Honestly - at least try to attempt a coherent arguement!

For my twopennyworth here, I am of the opinion it is not a class thing:

On the Glorious 12th, people come out of their country houses, put on Barbour Coats and using dogs again, shoot countless Pheasants for sport...Yes ok, they may eat some of them, but really this is a sport. If it was to "controll" the pheasant population, they would be bred capitively and slaughtered in slaughterhouses.

Our own Royal Family actively take part in the shooting of Stags. Can someone please explain what for? This is a sport using high powered rifles, not bows and arrows.

Low life pikeys have dog fighting and cock fighting....yes it is banned, but still goes on.

We have such things as the Grand National horse race, which kills mant horses each year...." Ah but they enjoy it" comes the pathetic whining of the horsey brigade....but we all bet on the race don't we.

A few years ago, government took the decision to wipe out the rabbit population by introducing a disease ( mixametosis sp?) because they thought there were too many of them.

We have laboratories which in the name of fashion, maim and kill countless animals each year so you ladies can look pretty.

If the countryside wanted to rid the areas of foxes they would introduce a disease such as mixemet...etc to kill them all.

this is not about control, this is about humans galloping accross the land chasing a fox, or deer or cat or whatever happens to get in the way and killing it/them.

If in the 21st Century this is progress then I for one am very sad about it.

what is with the some of the morons on this board i went away last night and heard some of the protestors on the tv. some of you should be up there to with them i reckon.

its nothing to do with class its to do with a cruel out of date barbaric blood sport and the need for it to be banned. i don't see how prejudice fits into it either. prejudice is saying that queers should piss off and die from the gay plague or ' i don't care about what happens outside my own back yard ie children dying of aids, let south africa take care of itself, sudan can piss off and deal with its own humanitarian crisis.

i feel ashamed reading some of the posts saying we should ignore what goes on in the outside world, i would class myself as a do gooder yes i totally give a shit about aids, sudan, poverty etc and i don't believe its our job just to turn our backs.

i am also sick of people turning the hunting debate round to ' well you eat meat so thats the same'

lets not lose sight of the issue here its about hunting not eating meat, wearing leather, fur etc.

why was badger baiting stopped? because its a cruel nasty blood sport. same as bullfighting is now restricted in a lot of spain.

i have read the background and i understand they are pests and cause damage. however this is not a reason to chase them across the countryside and rip them to shreds

...its not about population control Dave, you are right, and this was proven during the various BSE/foot and mouth crisis, hunting with horse and hound was banned for approximately 2 years in many areas and what happened?.... did the fox population increase out of all proportion as the hunting lobby would have you believe, no, it stayed the same, no more no less, see ! they talk cobblers.

Sadly the reason they think they can get away with all the rubbish they spout, is that they truly believe that the great towny unwashed are as stupid as the oiks they employ on their farms and estates.

I'm sorry caz I can't let you get away with all of that. If you eat meat you're involved in cruelty to animals. Fact. No amount of semantic wriggling and saying "it's not the same" can deny it, at the end of the day there is a dead animal and a happy human. Foie Gras for example requires that a steel feeding tube is rammed down a goose's throat and it's force-fed corn until it dies, just so some one can go "mmmm, that was nice". That to my mind is equally as cruel as ripping a fox to shreds. And the animal doesn't know (or care) if it was killed for food or fun. The thing is that cruelty to food animals happens in private and because it's such a low-level, routine, humdrum form of cruelty that happens to millions of animals a year it doesn't attract nearly as much publicity as the high-profile death of few foxes.
