obviously don't take this to seriousley but here we go:
the highest points a third place team has got in the last 6 seasons is mk dons with 87,
the lowest 76 with brentford,
the average points needed: 81.6
this leaves us with 20 points needed from a possible 45
7 wins should do it!

I've said this for the last 2 months or so but all we need to do is win our remaining home games and that's it.
Don't even need to pick up ANYTHING away from home.

Easier said than done but you feel that barring some monumental cock up, we are almost there.

But it's the second placed team you should be working out. 3rd place only gives you a play off position.

Surely its on the 3rd place team and then just add a point

I reckon 8 wins.

When you look at our fixtures its almost impossible to make a case for us not going up

Which is why he has calculated to beat 3rd, therefore being in 2nd. Seems ok to me unless I'm missing your point.

It's still the 2nd team that's important though surely.

1st 90
2nd 89
3rd 75

If you get 76 points to finish above 3rd doesn't mean you're second.

I said in my post the other day that 10 more wins should secure us the title - make that 9 wins following the game at Yeovil. So for promotion, 7 or 8 should see us home! By my reckoning, that could/should be promotion before we play the Southampton game?!

The great thing is (without cockiness) we could have those 7 by the end of March.

I know I've had a rough week and am very tired, but how can finishing above 3rd not be at least second ? I must be missing something. If you're above third, you are one of the two teams above.

How soon is now?

The point Da Man is making is that if you get 76 points you'd finish above the current 3rd place, but still in fact be third. Considering where we've been since September, finishing any lower than second now is shite

Clearly if you're counting 1st, 2nd and 3rd as being teams other than the Albion, and we beat third, then of course you are not necessarily second, but impicit in the original point that 3rd place average points is a nads under 82, so 82 would put you above 3rd, and be one of the two teams in first or second.

The average points total for finishing third is 81.6. If the team in second finishes on 90 for example, 89 would only be enough for third. You'd be well above the points needed on average to finish third, but still not enough to be second.
