That's right the MCG does hold that many.

Unfortunately for you all its crowd records aren't for cricket, they are for Australian Rules football games.

It's the home ground of 4 AFL football clubs.

All upgrades have been made to accomodate firstly the Olympics and more recently football fans, not cricket fans.

But we shant let the facts get in the way of the truth shall we?

and in England, every weekend during the premier league season, there are a number of stadiums which get bigger crowds than those for test matches.

i suppose that means we don't care about it either then, right?

makes you wonder why they even bother playing the ashes anymore. should just have a couple of T20 games then go and get pissed.

i'm sure the idea that all australians are complete cocks is a myth but you're not doing much to dispel it.

Never mind the Melbourne boxing day tests, the Brisbane test in the last ashes series had a 45,000 for each of the first 3 days.

Biggums isn't doing much about dispelling the Aussie stereotypes is he. Are you going to tell us some "hilarious" abbo jokes next, Tyrone? :thud:

No, what people are not understanding is it's football season and people are focused on that.

AFL kills any other sport in the country for sporting attendences.

And I mean destroys them by a long way.

Seriously a game of AFL is a million times more exciting and entertaining than a test cricket bore-fest.

So why wouldn't they give it more media coverage when the major interest is in that sport?

You're letting your anti-cricket bias get in the way of the FACTS (not a first time for you). Go check the Aussie media.

Psssst, you'd better let SMH know then - Sydney Morning Herald - Business & World News Australia | smh.com.au

And Yahoo!7 - Yahoo!7

And Heraldsun - Herald Sun Homepage | Victoria, National Australian News | Herald Sun

Because it's HEADLINE NEWS on all these - and many other Aussie sites.

Still, perhaps these companies don't know their audience as well as you, eh?

For the record, it's NOT top news on BBC, Yahoo! UK, The Sun etc. Cheers.

Umm why are you giving me online links to online papers?

Iv'e already pointed out that the biggest SELLING paper in Australia dedicated 5-6 times more print space to AFL than cricket.

The back page of the Sun was a picture of an AFL playing hitting another player, not anything Cricket.

Yahoo!7 isn't a paper.

I'm pointing out to you that these Australian sites are putting the Ashes top of NEWS (not just their sports/backpage sections).

These major Australian sites think their audiences want to read about the Ashes. Which suggests you've been talking a load of crap in this thread. Surprise!!

(Psst! Cricket isn't as big as football here, either. You need to let this AFL comparison go.)

As opposed to a cock who's trying to sound all factual about a nation he doesn't even live in?

I don't know anyone who reads a website for their information, they all buy the paper.

And no I'm not talking crap.

I'm giving you the views of someone who lives here as opposed to people who don't, thus I hear what people are talking about(And there's very little cricket spoken of around the water cooler).

Don't you think if it was so popular and they thought it would sell more papers they would have run a back page image of a cricketer and had the cricket spread 5-6 pages long instead of the rather small coverage it got?

Yeah - that's a great argument. You know - because we all KNOW that Australian "culture" has far, far, far more in common with China than it does with our own culture.

How ANYONE could suggest understanding anything about an alian culture such as that in Australia is beyond me. Afterall, they play funny rules football and everything.

you've never ever been guilty of that have you ? pots and kettles spring to mind.

Do they?

That's strange because i'd never presume to understand the local English culture, it's vastly different to mine.

Is it because I'm not whinging or complaining about the result that's the problem?

Should I get all pretend angry so it gives you a chance to Aussie bash and roll out all the old tired, dim witted stereotypical insults?

Forgive me if i'm no toeing the line but I'm just giving an alternate view that's actaully a quiet common view.

Agreed, but if Australia had WON the test then there would have been far more coverage (which, to be fair, is the same over here to an extent).

Meanwhile, can you let us GLOAT, it's been 75 years after all.

Either a) Maybe they don't talk to you about cricket at the water cooler because they know you don't like cricket or b) maybe they don't talk to you about cricket at the water cooler because they don't like you.

To be fair, the coverage on the websites Wozza posted is excellent and very fair-minded, giving due credit to Sir Fred etc. It's a great deal fairer than any of the crap that stroppy little hairy-armed THICKO and soon-to-be-former Australian cricket captain Ponting has been dribbling out with.
