England’s Ben White

Yep.

Yet some on here are happy to drop there draws and take a cheeky low one up the Arsenal.

There is a bit of that for sure. Same as last summer where some here were giddy at the pathetic £25m bid from Leeds and dropping their draws.

£40m is the opening bid. It makes sense from Arsenals perspective if they’re pushing to get this deal done as they secretly know £40m is low ball and the actual big boys haven’t even got started yet.

Ben is on a 4 year deal and he ain’t the type to down tools. Look at where we’ve got him to, the Euros with England. We need a 50m + offer minimum and Ben can do so, so much better then toxic Arsenal, blud.

Yep.

Smallclubitis is the only explanation I have for this.

Nobody has thrown the window open.
Other rumours are Liverpool, Utd & Real Madrid.

Obviously there was a time when that was true.
Let's be honest, most of the time we've not had anyone worthy of an Arsenal bid, so I assume that legacy has left some wounds that refuse to heal.

That can be the only reason for taking a £40m bid from Arsenal seriously.

Probably the same people who wanted to take the first offer from Leeds this time last year - £20m

Funny how we were largely accepting that Bissouma would be the player to go this window and now it looks like White. Arsenal have started the bidding and I can see Man United and potentially others joining in the bidding war.
I’d be pleased if we got north of £50m for White and we could keep Bissouma so long as he’s happy to stay and signs a new contract, with the view that we won’t stand in his way next year if the right bid comes in.

Veltman was signed as an additional defender, not as a replacement for White. If we sell he will have to be replaced to protect the strength of the squad. I agree that 50m is a lot of money but 60 or 70 million from a bidding war is better. There is simply no need to jump in June at the first interest.

Already sorted.

Hopefully he stays here for another year - he'll be a better player by then, will have more choices and will cost more! That worked very well for Maguire - ManU wanted him, but wouldn't pay Leicester's asking price of £70M - one year later they did.
I wish he'd change his agent though - just seems to want a big pay-off quickly and White to play anywhere but Brighton.

Ben's agent does seem a right knob. I believe he has very few high end clients and is therefore desperate for this 'big transfer'. Where is his focus on Ben finding the right club for his progression when he knows that Arsenal aren't in Europe but other CL qualified clubs may be prepared to buy him but possibly not right now. A real conflict of interest I think.

Although it pains me a little to say it, if White does go anywhere I'd like to see him go to Utd and form a partnership with Maguire which can only be good for England

Personally don't mind us selling Ben White for £50m + he's clearly a young talented player but let's be honest we can replace him. Veltman can play there for a season or two and offers more experience, used to playing out from the back and is more useful in both boxes. We've got Clarke still who could fill in. I also heard somebody suggesting bringing Goldson back for half the Ben White money and again I wouldn't be opposed.

I would love it if he stays for another season to develop but I wouldn't be too disheartened if he left, same with Biss. What would be silly is if we lost both, because with our current squad plus a striker if everyone remains fit top 8 is reachable and both cup competitions we can have a real go at.

I would be far happier seeing Ben go to Utd over Arsenal [emoji106]

I have a ten pound bet on at work that Ben White will not end up a Arsenal. I don't think they will be prepared bid up as far as other clubs. Just a hunch.

I agree I think he's replaceable and £50 million would be an excellent piece of business.

I also think you're right that Veltman could play centre back. Which would allow him and Lamptey to play in the same team. Although I think Clarke might be behind Ostigaard in terms of the pecking order. But this is why we sign so many centrebacks, so that we already have replacements at the club, who are already developing and just need the opportunity to step up.

I do think we could also afford to lose Bissouma as well, for a similar figure. I think Moder is his replacement, and I think he will be a good one. We then have the likes of Caicedo developing so that he'll be ready in a season or two.

If we lost those White and Bissouma, with replacements already here and 100 million in the bank, I think that would demonstrate very smart running of a football club.

I agree with all this but we have to be careful if we want to become an established top 10 club and eventually push for European competition selling our best players will make that much more difficult. I'm all for selling as long as we can benefit more than we lose from it.

You're right of course. I think we're probably talking about situations at either end of the spectrum, and the reality is there's probably a balance in there somewhere that the club will find.

They think their last proposal was rejected for want of 5 million quid ? All that tells me is that they are trying to make BHA put a number on it and Tony has declined to show his hand.

It's so bizarre.

They must know Mr Bloom and how he wants his club run by now, the man has NEVER blinked first, never, not once.
Yet every window team X try and impose themselves and fail, while in the meantime Bloom's henchmen are buying Lamptey for 3m and Veltman for 900k.

Whilst the point is extremely valid, I sort of both hope and expect that TB's priorities are Sustainable/Secure financially ahead of Established/Top Half EPL (and yes, there is a connection but when it comes to priorities, selling *some* of the best in the squad is inevitable because they are the ones that have a strong market value).
