[Football] Arsenal’s Ben White

I dont think I follow the anti-arsenal sentiment on here. They are undeniably an enormous club. It is quite possible that White loves the idea of joining a huge club and forming the spine as they improve to challenge again. They have some very good young players and will be able to attract big names. Joining at 23 he could have a decade there and become a club legend. If he joined somewhere like Liverpool or city he would just be another player. Maybe he fancies the challenge and has been told of big plans for development.

Didn’t arsenal do quite well in the second half of the season? With a few more good signings the could easily be challenging for the top 4 again. It strikes me that white is one piece in this jigsaw. Arsenal have been in the doldrums for a while but if I was an arsenal fan and we signed white I would be genuinely excited about a resurgence approaching.

This. I've wound up some Arsenal supporting mates by suggesting I'd hoped he'd go to a bigger club but anyone suggesting this is almost a sideways move is utterly deluded.

White will need to be replaced with an equivalent on the other side to Webster, or it'll completely mess up how we play.

Or we could instead go to 4 at the back to have an extra player elsewhere. Looking at the signings we've been made or linked with I assume we're going to be playing with 8 wingers, Dunk and Webster, and Sanchez.

Velts in the short term will cover Ben’s spot no problem at all.

Long term will be more interesting. Ostigard is the most prominent name… but let’s be honest, GP is not afraid to play anyone from the u23’s if he feels they’re good enough (ie, Sanchez, Alzate, Connolly). I wonder if there’s a defender he has in mind who’s more under the radar.

I see Leeds fans are claiming White isn't worth 50 mill. I'm surprised at their stance, as Leeds and the Messiah stand to pocket a decent percentage of the fee, for making Ben the player he now is. It's only fair that they are rewarded.

Yeah, there are plenty of options in or around the squad.

It was the implication in your previous post that Webster alone carrying the ball forward covers the loss of White that I was picking on, if we play the same system then we need the CB on both sides to be doing that. Veltman and Burn both can do it, but since they're also back up wing backs we will need to bring somebody through, who'll need to have the same qualities.

Short reply - we're agreeing with each other

I think Potter sees Karbo as more of a RWB than a LWB looking at where he has been deployed for the 1st team and U23s so far but I’m not sure the Pole will be ready for England 1st team football for a season or two.

I think White will be replaced by two players in the squad. My money is on Østigård & Băluță with Roberts just missing out unless we sign someone pretty quick.

I think Cucurella could do a job at RWB if we sign him & Lamptey along with Veltman are injured.
My guess is we try to extend Băluţa's contract and he goes to Farul Constanța for a year on loan to work with Hagi again.

But I'd be delighted if he makes our 25 man squad.

Leeds won’t get a penny.

Baluta?

Think he’ll be off-loaded.

Or the fans who just vote for Dunk every season because he is one of our own despite there being more deserving players.

Bissouma should have won comfortably last season, but there can be no doubt that Dunk remains one of our best players.

I’m not sure other than possibly Webster there were any others close to Bissouma

A good opportunity for the club to strengthen in other areas, but its worth bearing in mind that BHA won't receive £50m in the bank the day he signs. The fee will likely be paid down in instalments over the course of his contract there.

BHA currently owe something like £23m in transfer fees, and are owed £3m.

Veltman will surely play in White's place especially now Lamptey is fit again.

That's the obvious 1 out, 1 in solution. Over the course of the season, with injuries, cards, workload management and tactical changes, somebody else will have to play there a good chunk of the time.

Haydon Roberts on the bench?

To mates, one Arsenal, the other Liverpool, have just emailed me to say 'sorry to see White Leave Brighton'. WTF? ???

Look like the top clubs don't think, at present, he is worth the money.

Now after all the paper talk, according to the beeb a deal has been agreed in principle with Arsenal.

He’s going I suspect - probably as soon as he returns from his hols.

Great deal for us and good luck Ben.
