But persistent low level fouling does break up play too much, and is worthy of a yellow in my opinion. It's a good rule, if somewhat subjective.
To add, having thought a bit more about it, I really don't think that 'offenses' that are not quite bookable offenses should be totted up.

Your reasoning is that the cumulative effect is to break up play. I agree. But that is not an offense.

Likewise, Fulham, Newcastle and Villa suffering from multiple off-the-ball player malfunctions, resulting in players sitting down till the ball is kicked out of play, is designed to break up play. But no player ever gets carded for dubious malfunction on the basis of 'totting up' let alone on the basis that there is an actual rule that has been broken, when this happens.

In fact in the latter case, the referee has no requirement to stop play for anything other than a head injury, yet none, ever, in my recollection, has waved play on after a player (normally on the side of the malfunctioning player, but quite often the other side) has kicked the ball out for a throw.

I can live with subjectivity as long as it is clearly and unambiguously enshrined in law. It would need to map to a notion that the judgement of a referee is final when the actuality is unclear. However I still struggle with the idea that a non-bookable foul can become bookable if it is part of a series. In effect the referee is being allowed to attribute the sequence of non-bookable fouls to a conspiracy.

So, no I don't like it.

And back to the time wasting by injury faking, if you accept a totting up process for non-bookable fouls, why not allow a totting up process for a suspiciously-improbable sequence of sudden off-the-ball malfunctions? I can't see that ever happening. That said, if the refs ignored all off the ball malfunctions that are not head injuries (or Erikson-style collapses) then this problem would disappear. I seem to recall we discussed this at length after a Newcastle or Fulham game passim.

In short, the referees are wankers.

As others have posted, you are wrong - I am not goading them at all, merely pointing out that rules and facts clearly aren't relevant to them if it doesn't suit their agenda. Yes they would have been annoyed at the time, but when their manager and RIce come out and say it was the correct decision (whereas the Crawley manager tried to blame the ref for not sending Williams off...) surely that is the Arsenal fans cue to move on. The Arsenal fans are continuing to wind themselves up into a frenzy rather than focussing on the bluntness of their attack for instance.
The time for goading is when they visit the Amex. Constant booing of Rice along with 'you dirty northern b'stard' should have their fanbase on strings within 5 minutes.

Oh yes. People went to a game, made monkey sounds against the black guys, chanted homophobic slurs for 90 minutes, beat up a guy dressed in the wrong shirt outside of the stadium, then went home and took a cup of tea and thought "the ref was ok today".
I guess you must have seen a movie or two about attending football matches before the PL. The truth was more prosaic

There is the assumption that with 11 men they would have won easily but based on the way we ended the half I think we would have given them a lot to think about in the second half. Also, if the gulf in class that they take for granted actually exists they wouldn’t have parked the bus in the way they did. Could you seriously see us having 80% possession against 10 men at the Etihad?

Most of my wife’s family are Arsenal fans and I am finding this all very entertaining.

It would be superb if they choked against Spurs, just to be able to wind them up some more, but Spurs will inevitably be very Spursy and lose through some comedy gaffe I expect.

Fair enough.
I agree that off the ball malfunctions are subjective (very difficult for the ref), but fouls are fouls. The totting up may have a degree of subjectivity, but not the contributing fouls.
I liked @Gwylan post (78) reminding us of the rugby laws.

I paticularly enjoyed the Arsenal fans' clearly audible cheer when Raya saved Minteh's shot before turning to groans when Pedro followed up

Their bet wetting is hilarious they really are world class in this respect.

Second only to their ignorance of the laws of the game.

The authorities should be able to review red cards in cases where the sanction is the result of a second yellow
I do actually agree with that point. For a long time I’ve felt it strange that VAR will review every single red card issued, but will not intervene when it’s the result of a second yellow.

I have done some more Facebook research into this and I believe things could be improved significantly if the laws of the game were translated into a few different African languages.
