You are right however to say Thatcher did not win the Election because of the war (which Foot supported). She won it because of the egomania of the Gang of Four. The Tory vote actually dropped from 1979 but the anti-Thatcher vote was split by the SDP.

.. and in 1980 Thatcher sent Ridley down to try and convince the Islanders they were better off being part of Argentina. The Islanders weren't having it, but Ridley suggested (on returning) a Hong Kong style leaseback scheme.

Did this lead directly to Argentina invading ? Who knows, but why do people continue to deny this happened ? It's all on record.
