Falkland Islanders voting for independence is the same as turkeys voting for Christmas.

Pork pie land.
Hopefully we will get to kick there cowardly arses again. Better to send our lads to fight for BRITISH land than for useless causes on behalf of the USA.

In London village.
If this is true they would have joined the Belgrano.

Depends on whether the French had decided to tell them how to prime their bombs or not and if people had cottoned on to Thatcher's attempt to hand the Falklands over to the Argies a year or so earlier.

Let's be honest, Argentina f***ed us over.

How the f*** do you figure that one?

Argentina have no more desire for a fight than we have, besides - they cant afford to.

Unlike 1982, FI is a fortress, we've had thirty years to dig in and dominate all the good ground. Taking it would be far from easy these days.

Simon Kirby said that at the moment they want to be citizens of the UK so nothing will change until they decide other wise and also said there is nothing to do with oil to me the other day???

We had an aircraft carrier then though.

That is true, don't get me started on that! Ark Royal would have been useful in Libya, let alone a potential Task Force to the SA. But like I say, it's a pretty well defended piece of rock, the Argentines would be hard pushed to take it.

necessary to retake the island prehaps. airman's point is that compared to a company of Marines in 1982 who had little choice but to surrender, today there is a squadron of Typhoons, a battalion of infantry well trained in the terrain, plus the given that a sub is patrolling. taking the islands would be a very different proposition today.

Didn't realise there was a squadron of Typhoons there. The Argies will be blown out of the sky/water before they get close

You keep spouting this rubbish you read in the Gaurdian, the Obvious question is if she tried then why didn't she? That seems to have slipped your and the Gaurdians notice.

Bottomline is its down to the people who live there. Politicaly speaking your f***ed, It may be cool to break up Empires, give people autonomy etc but when they dont want it you are politicaly screwed. Thatcher didn't win the election because of the War, labour lost it. Its not about Land or oil but the people who live on it.

So answer the question. If thatcher agreed to hand over the Falklands why didn't she?

Are you going to decend into Falmeresque conspiracy theories, Like thatcher engineered the war by saying yes then later said no? Why haven't any of the Juntas Generals pointed this out in their Biographies? Maybe because its Bollocks?

all about money again the Argies want the oil and mineral deposites in the area around our Falkland Islands the last war there was Thatcher protecting her husbands shares in those deposites.
I mean lets face facts they are ours ........but who actually knew where they were before the Argies decided they belonged to them.
bottom line is the Falklanders want to be BRITISH and that good enough for me but please don't lets pretend we care about them its the deposites that lay under their sea we care about

Whatdoes 'being British' mean though? They don't contribute to our taxes and they're not represented in Parliament. Yet we pay for their defence.

In a post-colonial world, why are they British?

And what if they have anti-missile defence guns?

And what if they have lazers, and sharks, and sharks WITH lazers ...

If you're going to argue the point that you believe Argentina have a capable and modern military (not so) at least TRY to sound convincing.
