Having commuted Shoreham to London for 22 years, whilst the trains are more comfortable and less draughty these days (and to be fair, more reliable generally), I don't remember any of my commuter trains pre-privatisation that didn't have loos.

But surely you wouldn't dare go to the loo on a commuter train, you'd lose your seat instantly, you just have to cross your legs and try to hold it in.

But your ticket is only valid on a SPECIFIC train so you would clearly be breaking the terms and conditions...

I believe there was a thread relating to this a couple of weeks ago ???

Kinda. It's for a specific journey, with a specific destination. Not necessarily one particular train, it could be for one of any number of trains that serve the route.

However, you'd still be breaking the terms and conditions by getting off the train. But no one would know, is my point. They won't know what ticket you bought until you try to go through the barrier, so you could get away with getting off the train, using the loos on the platform, getting on the next train to your final destination.

Brighton - In your face
Perhaps some of you who feel very strongly about this could write to your MP.

For those in BN1 the person is called Caroline Lucas.

Or you may want to tell next door's cat instead.

For once, you've actually come up with a good idea.

She's a very effective MP.

Oh is she, oh good. I haven't been paying much attention really.

You couldn't possibly give an example of a parliamentary question she has raised, which relates specifically to Brighton, could you old boy?

Cheers:thumbsup:

It's all here
Search for (in the 'Commons debates' OR in the 'Westminster Hall debates' OR in the 'Lords debates' OR in the 'Northern Ireland Assembly debates') speaker:Caroline Lucas (TheyWorkForYou.com)
and here
Caroline Lucas | Caroline in Parliament
(To answer your lazy question, after a very brief look I could see questions on Academies - something that affects Brighton).

Maybe Simon Kirkby could actually say something bar his maiden speech apart from 'welcoming' news of others from the confort of his website?

Or maybe Lucas should stop bothering being such an excellent breath of fresh air in politics and question why Mike Weatherleys wife is reportedly working as a prostitute?

Back to your baiting HB&B as it's frankly not working.

To answer the OP, that's just wrong.

Naturally, that is the case. I mean, if I got up, someone mght look at me a bit funny over the top of their Telegraph.

On a serious note, you wouldn't get out of your seat these days, because the trains ar so damn crowded all the way up to town, that you wouldn't get to sit down again.

I wrote to Southern Railway about the toilet-free trains (not about additional services nor about quality of service or trains), and got this reply back by way of detailed explanation and justification for not having toilets on the train...

Thank you for your email regarding the introduction of additional services between Brighton and Portsmouth.

We have made a commitment to increase the capacity of our fleet by 10% - so we are introducing extra trains. We want to do this as soon as possible and using existing trains that are already available is the best option to achieve this.

Contrary to reports in the media, these trains are not newly built though they are being refreshed with an interior paint, new seats and flooring, and flexible spaces for wheelchairs and cycles making them feel ‘as new’. These trains were built without toilets and have been used successfully for many years without them.

We will use them in areas where short journeys are typical, such as along our south coast route between Brighton and Portsmouth which is a ‘stopping service’ on which 90% of passengers make journeys of less than half an hour. Not all services between Brighton and Portsmouth will be operated by trains without toilets. Approximately two-thirds of those services will still have toilets. We are increasing the number of toilets at stations.

These trains have more seats than the trains currently used on this route and we will use the trains they replace to provide more coaches on some of our busiest and most crowded services on the network.

In other words, 'f*** off'.

The funny thing is if you're on a train to Seaford which arrives after 4 o'clock you'll find the station toilets locked , not to worry though , if you look towards the far end of the platform there is a skip which you can piss behind

Or you could write to Simon Kirby (Kemptown) or Mike Weatherly (Hove) who both represent the political party that left the country the mess that is left over from rail privatisation.

I think Dr Lucas would be the better bet as the party she represents genuinely believes in good public transport.

or you could write to the transport minister Norman Baker who considering he uses trains alot would probably agree with your views on toilets on trains.

Nuff said. I have tried. She hasn't.

We'll I've just found 5 recent ones in Hansard.

Perhaps you were looking in the American version ? Like that law book you picked up when researching the law regarding leaving a restaurant without paying....

Why would it bother you?

And as you are so eager to bring the subject up again the UK version is called 'making off without payment'. Although if you are so worried about it happening to yourself, you can always of course revisit the establishment and settle up the amount owed.

That looks familiar:

Toilets on Southern trains - the facts : Southern

They could have awnsered direct rather than cutting and pasting off of their own sodding website. Customer service my arse!

It doesn't take a genius to work out that some people will take matters into their own hands, turning the carriages into stinking cattle trucks and creating appalling conditions for both passengers and staff.'

Face it Tim, you got it wrong - badly WRONG. It was established one here by people that do know what they're on about that you didn't know what you were talking about, yet you still carry this pathetic charade on. Every post you make on it only makes it worse for you and your empty argument.

Still, carry on, because it gives the rest of us something to laugh about.

Er I didn't bring this up.

I will maintain that I would have just left what I thought was an appropriate amount on the table.

However, yes in the original thread I was wrong. And wrong to suggest you were guilty of any wrong doing.

So what happens if a train gets 'soiled'? surely it then has to be taken out of service so where is the money in that?
