Definitely an improvement on Unauthorised Immigrants arriving by boat.

In the last 7 days only 1,145 have arrived, ready to be processed and sent off to a hotel for a year
Only a slight change from last year.

For the same seven days in 2024 it was 1,103.

What's your point?

Well my original point was to suggest at last this Government have started to reduce the numbers but it seems that there has been little change

Well this is a problem not of this government's making. It's all on the Tories and their crappy Brexit I'm afraid.

I'd give Labour more than 8 months to turn it around if I were you. Maybe check back in a year from now?

The subject of “cause” is debatable, in fairness.

Objectively, regardless of one’s views of mass immigration and adopting multiculturalism, the massive - and I mean massive - uplift in the number of immigrants happened under Tony Blair’s Labour government. Predictably, this meant fewer illegals - because the policy was to open the borders. (This isn’t a point of debate - this is stated policy and something Blair has spoken and written about at length).

The Tories managed things very badly, Labour are managing it better than they were, within the wider laws and policies we have.

But if you have families of immigrants welcomed with open arms in the late 90’s, it’s absolutely normal for others to try and come here based on familial connections, and a now dated concept of an open border.

The Green leader of Wealden council 100% in favour of open borders for all?

Just far enough away from LDC
Exactly, Saxon isn’t able to construct a defence for the mess these people have created or indeed the lack of leadership in the hotels to send them out to pick it up, so he he reverts to whataboutism about railways lines 👍
I know you're being facetious. You clearly knew it was aimed at you. Crying whataboutism when someone challenges your biases and double standards.

I mean, you posted a photo and then presented unsupported assumptions as fact. I can construct a defence, I just chose not to.

There’s at least one other rational explanation besides the tropes that appear on your Facef*ck feed or out of the mouth of “Novgorod” Nigel.

When a hotel is used for asylum seekers, it’s run on a skeleton staff. There’s no full English every morning, no minibar, no exclusive use of the health spa. Rooms are stripped back to accommodate more beds.

Residents are supposed to be housed there for no more than 28 days but many are stuck there for six months plus. Their daily living allowance is £9. This is paid onto a pre-pay card called an ASPEN card, but many new arrivals don’t receive this for months. The food they are provided by the Home Office contractor (not the hotel, their kitchens are closed down) is often rancid.

In the South, the company that won the Home Office contract for housing asylum seekers is called Clearsprings Ready Homes. They run their own facilities but also subcontract relevant hotels when the need arises. It trousered profits of over £180m between 2022 and 2024. Its founder is worth £750m. Your hard earned taxes are disappearing into his pocket. Last year, it transferred £16m off-shore, perhaps to lessen its own tax obligations.

Despite these riches it has a long history of neglect and poor services. Its residents have gone on hunger strikes and attempted suicide due to the impact of their living conditions on their physical and mental health.

It wouldn’t be any surprise to find that rubbish is not collected often enough from residents’ rooms.

In the case of your Wokingham hotel, complaints were made by residents to the local council. Local authorities are not involved in asylum seeker accommodation, so they contacted the hotel, who perhaps would have referred them to Clearsprings, who perhaps would have referred them to the Rat’s Ass department.

Asylum seekers are often afraid to go outside because they get targeted. Given this hotel is known to have housed asylum seekers, that seems a distinct possibility in this case. Even if they stay inside, it’s possible a far right mob will turn up and try to set fire to the hotel. This doesn’t make for an enormous sense of well being.

They don’t have the money for public transport, can’t arrange for a man in a van to take their trash away, and possibly feel too afraid to roam unfamiliar streets looking for a suitable bin.

What options would they be left with if rubbish isn’t being collected and is starting to pile up?

Personally, I would take a look at the system that demeans asylum seekers in order to line some greedy rich c*nt’s pocket at taxpayer expense, rather than further punishing people who’ve thrown themselves on our mercy to escape war zones and totalitarian dictators only to find themselves being treated like shit.

So, can you discount this possibility and support that with evidence that proves your assumption?

On another pathway, Amess's family are bleating about the decision to not have a public enquiry over the murder of David.
The murderer will never be released.
The murderer was waved into the UK and deemed not a threat during the time the Tories 'ran' the country.
What do the Amess family want exactly?
'Call me Dave' strung up?
Johnson defenestrated?
Truss thrown into the sea?
Sunak made to sit in the corner wearing a dunce's cap?
Or Starmer to admit labour are unfit to govern, and call a general election?
I suspect it is the last one on my list.
Who knew? ???

David Amess.

I’ve seen the bereaved family interviewed, they weren’t party political. They just wanted a wider enquiry. I can see both points of view.

We would all love a wider enquiry.
I wasn't happy with my dad's death certificate back in 87.

Was your dad stabbed to death by a fanatic of so-called Islamic State, at his place of work?

Strange comparison.

The point of a PE is that it would (AGAIN) show that Prevent is not fit for purpose (As has also recently been shown with Southport /Nottingham)

if you know the outcome, negates need for any further enquiry?

Whatever the rights and wrongs here, dont you think describing the angst of a family who has had a member murdered as 'bleating' a little inappropriate?

Big changes coming....

Binning thousands of Civil Servants and slashing welfare.

I thought the tories lost the last election?
I (somewhat hesitantly) applaud Labour for tackling the issue per se. However, how they go about 'slashing welfare' will be crucial.

If those most in need such as the genuinely (I use that word reluctantly because there are those with disabilities that desperately need far greater support and those that are abusing the word 'disability' to milk the system) disabled, people with severe learning difficulties, severe health issues etc have their support cut then Labour will just be Tory with a different set of clothes.

Trouble is that I think most of us would agree that the overall benefits/social security bill needs to come down but how to do that fairly? Not so much.
