Why would you want to take a goat in to Dick's bar.

That's simply not true. For reasons to do with managing the accessible minibus shuttle service between Sussex University and the stadium, I regularly arrive at the Dick's Bar queue sometime between 2.15pm and 2.30pm. It never takes more than 10 minutes queuing to get inside the building and service at the bar is very quick.

So once you've got a beer at 2:35 you've got 25 mins to drink it walk out of dicks walk to what ever part of the ground you're in, so like I said in my previous post can't see the point in queuing for dicks if it's gone about 2:20 just as well go in your own concourse and enjoy a bit more time having a beer ( but I'm not telling you what to do mr Bracknell it's just my opinion:cheers:)

Been in there with my young one for the Palace Beam Back game but otherwise never been in. Would be nice to have somewhere warm where the kids can wait before the game and be entertained for an hour/half an hour before kick off. We seem so good with the family friendly thing in so many other aspects but having somewhere other than your seat or the concourse is where the club lack thinking. They would make considerably more money selling cola than beer so why not have a non-alcoholic bar for the kids in each stand?

Kids don't need somewhere warm! They're kids. They don't feel the cold. It's us oldies that need a warm kid free bar.

Kids, somewhere warm? Mollycoddled they are today! That's why this country is going down the pan! That's why we don't win world cups!

Having sensibly chosen my seat in the North Stand, it's an easy walk - less than five minutes from Dick's to my seat at the end of a row, close to the steps. I rather enjoy the fact that the Club always play a burst of Sussex By The Sea to greet my arrival in the stadium.

Its really not much to ask to have ONE small child-free zone in the entire stadium, is it ??

Space in Dicks is very limited and seating is very much at a premium, so I would not be best impressed if when I rocked up, half of that seating was taken up by a load of kids sitting around swinging their legs, utterly bored out of their minds while dad chugs a few before the game. The over-18's rule there is perfectly justifiable on a matchday. If you have kids with you and you MUST have a drink before the game, then you do have other options.

As for Dicks Bar itself, I agree its a pretty soul-less place, far too "modernist" for my liking. It hasn't even got a ceiling for christs sake. But I'm not there for the decor. All I need is beerage and my mates and thats me pretty much sorted. Always get good 3G there too, so team news on Twitter is always a regular feature as we disect Gus's latest whims.

All I'll say is that the Amex is the only ground I can recall visiting where my children are not welcome in club facilities, and that makes me sad.

It's the only place at the ground where people who sit in differing parts of the stadium can have a drink, together, pre-match.

The club want my money, but when I'm with my family they are not going to have it. £8m loss or not, I'd rather spend it elsewhere.

Bang on. The people I'd occasionally meet before a game almost without exception, sit in different stands, so pre-match will always have to be in Brighton, or Lewes. Money down the drain, from the club's perspective.

But it's not money down the drain is it? If Dick's were empty I'd agree with you, but if you were in there with your kids then someone else can't get in - so they'd be the ones In Brighton or Lewes or wherever. (Or queuing up for longer outside waiting for you and your kids to leave and thus not spending anything). From a club point of view it's swings and roundabouts.

Well, its not money down the drain is it, because Dicks is packed to the rafters before every match. Kids or no kids, they physically cannot pack any more people in there without it getting ridiculous.

As for saying children aren't welcome in club facilities - I think the club do a pretty fine job for the kids on matchdays at the Amex, its one of the reasons why so many youngsters are regularly attending. Taking them to a bar before every game, where they'd be expected to sit (or more likely stand) still and not run around, wouldn't be many kids idea of an ideal pre-match experience I'd bargain.

The last time I was in Dick's, with nail-Z a month or two back, some old folks joined our table.

They sat there, taking up these oh-so-valuable seats, taking up the oh-so-precious headcount and didn't buy a single thing the whole time they were in there. Scanning around, there were a large number of people either not consuming anything or nursing a single drink as if it had to last their entire life. My kids would be sticking more into the club's coffers than many I saw in there.

The two sides are not going to agree on this, as has been seen many times over before this thread. My point stands - I've only been to one in-stadium bar before where children are excluded, and that's my own club.

Where did I say I would like to take them every game? Simply, I wouldn't. It would be nice to have the option for the once-in-a-while we may fancy it though.

The Battle of Trafalgar seem to appreciate the custom though, and they don't moan at me to buy more stuff (whilst simultaneously putting barriers up to stop me from doing so).

Kids shouldn't be allowed in any bars full stop....And yes I like a drink and yes I got an 8 yr old and yes I bring her to football sometimes. If its a family pub for Sunday lunch that's different away from the public bar but what sort of parent wants to take a child into a bar with them anyway?

Not everything has to be about making money, does it ? Dicks is the only place in the stadium where the oldies can actually sit down somewhere before the game (unless they go straight to their seat). I wouldn't begrudge them that just because they're only nursing half a Harveys for an hour.

Perhaps you need to look inward Darren, every other bar is available to kids, maybe move your ticket to ESL where your youngster can experience the family atmosphere and sweetshop culture alongside many other happy smiling children.... instead of pining for the adult Dicks Bar, a place I am certain as has been said, most children would find very tedious and restricting.

What patronising bullshit.

Oooo.... how predictable.... it was just a suggestion to help with your problem, is that allowed?

Isn't bullshit on the Google banned list?

A bit emotive there, nobody at the Albion is moaning at us to buy more stuff. They'll just charge us more for it. :)

And it might be a once-in-a while option for you of course, but that obviously means that its never going to be once-in-a-while for every other punter who enjoys a few pre-match jars in Dicks. They'd be be stuck in a bar resembling a creche.

No, no it wasn't.

There are no Google ads today, you may notice. There'll be no NSC either if I'm not able to resolve that one.

It needs pointing out that the margins made on soft carbonated drinks are about 5 fold that of beer, perhaps someone should point this out to Mr Barber, within weeks Dicks would be an adult free zone.
