Bosun also had a few Rangers fans that used to go in North Stand......forever grateful they were in there for "that" Spurs match in the early 80's (inc the brothers)

It's all a bit hazy, but I remember some bloke called Hannigan? Absolute nutter. Remember him starting 'we are Brighton' in an away game from the home section(in the days when there was little or no segregation). Needless to say it all kicked off big time- Gillingham? Vaguely remember them singing 'we're the Rainham'- Hate to say it though because I was young and impressionable, I was well impressed. But now....... It's not big and it's not clever. Happy days

Jim Hannigan was an absolute legend in the 1970s. Dont remember him in the South Stand (I alternated between South and North) but in the North Stand he was the man. Had an incredible talent for standing on the barrriers to start all the chants and then getting swallowed up by the crowd when the OB started getting a little too interested. God that takes me back.

I think the Bosun boys moved to the North stand when the away fans were moved to the north east corner, then the WSF later stood in the chicken run, so the away fans used to get it from both sides. Because there were still a few good lads in the north after the famous bosun boys were not in the ground shall we say. Das Reich do you remember these initials from the 80s (right up until around 89/90) SW SS KC LW a couple of these lads were Portslade boys? I'm still glad those days are over inside the grounds now. As I have grown up, I have enjoyed seeing whole families enjoying football, not just the knuckle draggers that used to go

I agree with your sentiments, and of course you are absolutely right. I wouldn't want to take my boys to games if they were like they were then. Having said that, at the age I was and the; I don't know, frisson?, maybe immaturity -it's part of what got me hooked in the first place. Probably hard to understand for the more recent vintage of Brighton supporters, but the Goldstone was absolutely packed back in the seventies, buzzing - I remember in the north stand if we scored, you just took your feet off the floor and went where you were taken!

There are definitely pockets of firms coming back, but that is not to say I agree with it any more. I will admit to lots of rucking when young and daft. But I like the family atmosphere we have at the Amex, and do not condone violence wholeheartedly. That said I am not stupid enough to think that it doesn't go on now.

fair comment, as long as you're enjoying the experience that's all that matters.

I was a schoolboy teenager in the South Stand days. Lived in Burgess Hill and a good crowd of us went from there and stood with the Burrell boys from Haywards Heath.
I was terrified at the time of the West Ham game referred to earlier in the thread when I realised I was surrounded by ICF, but looking back on it, I survived and it was great! As someone else said.... character building!

I can't believe my dad let me go in there, to be honest, though he ended up with the Millwall firm all around him in surgical masks where he stood and I was worried for his safety that day!

As others have said, it's strange that we think of it as good times, but I'm glad it's not like that any more, really.....

Clifton coach (with Norris the organizer unwell and unable to attend) to Hereford away ( Wardys debut ) , Pissing in wine bottles and throwing them out of the skylights at the Hereford fans, arrived took over a pub and the landlord announced how nice it was to have such a well behaved bunch of supporters in ........ immediate mayhem started , beer up the walls etc etc , Hereford mob passed outside and chased up a wide pathway opposite. Brighton fans decided to enter the Hereford end from outside the ground before the match and were turned back and made to go to the other end and made pronged attacks from there from each side of the ground. After the game Hereford came towards us outside and the Police let a dog at them which bit a guy with his girlfriend up his crotch in his High waister trousers .... hilarious.
The return trip minus a couple of our passengers stopped at the Wooden Bridge Fish and Chip take away and restaurant in Guilford , some decided to sit with a meal , others queued for take away, suddenly Will Davey appeared behind the counter taking orders and handing out Fish etc , all Albion diners left without paying from both sides of the shop. Back onto the coach and more mayhem , one guys laquered perm was set on fire , beer cans thrown from front to back of the coach , cutting myself and a few hitting the driver and the screen , the driver had his girlfriend with him for company on the trip and they decided to drive straight in to Horsham Police Station to arrest the occupants of the coach ,as soon as stationary a few , including Will did a runner before the Police managed to board , they were later picked up on the A24. Severe warnings were given out and the coach eventually allowed to carry on. Me and my buddy Kev Stoner ran like hell home from Broadwater Church to witness Wardy's debut goal on Match of the Day .... just. Whilst trying to explain my bloody face and shirt to Mum and Dad. I must state I was not involved in any of the naughty events of the day.......cough !!

Meet in the Sackville downstairs bar at Hove Station before the game and then into the South Stand.
They were great days with a great set of lads and my Navy ID Card got me out of s sorts of shit with the old bill in them days.
With the lads from the Clifton including little N.E and an albino bloke who drank with them as well as the usual nitters.

Remember going to Palace away and we all got the train from Eirthing and stopped of st the Burrell arms and got fully mobbed up on the train, got to East Croydon station where the police were waiting for us so the wholeot of us went across the tracks trying to get away but they still rounded us all up and escorted us to the ground saying we couldn't go into any pubs on the way so we just went into every shop on the way to the ground buying beer and they didn't do a thing about it !
After the game was mayhem with cars getting turned over etc etc
We were bonkers in them days and as someone said on here I'm glad it's not like that anymore !!!
Who did burn the South Stand down anyway ??? TWICE !

yes, of course it was. I'm still grateful I survived it because at times it felt like they were all after me!!

That season we had Arsenal (twice), Spurs, West Ham, Man U, Liverpool, Saints, and a few other big clubs at the Goldstone, so most home games were "interesting"
