Is there anyone on here who is based in Auckland? Have been here for a week now and don't know many people. Feeling the need to meet people who actually know about 'soccer' instead of all these idiots wanting to talk about rugby!:drink:

Not very helpful but was in New Zealand, both north and south islands in our summer on a rugby tour, wish you luck finding a football fan (best bet is any backpackers over there) the whole place is rugby mad.

If you don't have much luck, refer to local people as Jafas. That'll make you friends in Auckland.

Hope that you were there in time for the Farmer's Parade. It's strange to get a Christmas parade in those warm temperatures.

Give the locals from The City of Sails a chance. Like most Kiwis, you will find them to be amongst the most friendly people in the world.

Enjoy New Zealand, Commander. Don't bore the pants off of them by talking football all of the time.

Yeah, saw the farmers parade. Not that strange though, it's not warm here. It's actually hailing at the moment! And I am enjoying NZ, it's wicked. The Kiwis are freindly and I don't bother talking to them about football anyway.

Went to a pub last night to watch the Chelsea game and it was full of Chinese Chelsea fans. Quite bizzare.

Queen Street, no doubt? Have they finished the station site at the bottom of it?

When a kiwi starts talking rugby just say "there is only one sport that matters and you just lost to Vanuatu at it" - that shuts them up.

Actually, quite looking forward to the Lions tour though.

Commander - I have been here for about 3 years via Wellington (just in time to miss 2 champo seasons). There was another Albion lad in Ork but he has not posted for a while.

Yep. Looks quite good, very big by Kiwi standards, would compare to a slap of paint at the Old Steine though.

Aucklands a dump! Wellington is much nicer. Get yourself over to Sydney for Christmas pissup!

Auckland's a dump? Are you sure?

I worked there for 5 months in '99 & loved the place. Yes I got all round the country too, including windy city.

Kiwi's don't do footie mate. I was in Alexandria on the south island when Man U were in the European Cup Final. Couldn't find anywhere to watch it, or anyone that knew what it was!

Auckland, top place!

Pleased to hear that GNF. I trust that the old post office building has been transformed and returned to its former glory. It must be good to be able to cross those lights at the bottom of Queens Street and get to the piers and ferries without having the detour around those bloody ugly hoardings.

Spent a few weeks in Wellington. Once you get used to the hills you do get a feel for the place. The missus wasn't keen though. I don't know why. I stopped trying to fathom her out years ago.

We were both agreed that, accross the water, sleepy Picton was a delight. In fact most of the south island made our mouth water, apart from Greymouth. Spent a few weeks in Christchurch. That's a lovely city.

Auckland is great, Waiheke Island (just off the harbour, get the ferry) is amazing, especially at this time of year. GO!

Central Auckland as in Queen Street reminds me of London Road but is getting a lot better. Other than that Auckland is a spectacular place built around a huge natural harbour with some very old, trendy well established suburbs. Manukau on the other hand is pants and quite scary (ever seen Once Were Warriors?)

Britomart (the old PO) looks great and actually won a UK design award (I work for the company that did all the planning and transport work). QE11 Sq has been transformed and the same is going to happen to the all the old buildings along Customs Street and Queen Street (big streetscaping job I am working on at the moment). Wellington is nice but for other reasons, confined entertainment area, great harbour and coastline (saw a pod of Orca;s in the harbour once on my lunchbreak). Lived in Island Bay which was cool. Picton - yep great place. NZ is cool all round really but after the the UK you do get a sense of isolation because it is so piggin far from anywhere, but some people like that. Of course there is no Albion.

I had an argument with a kiwi once because he thought that football should have different weight divisions? eh?

They don't seem to grasp the fact that 'kicking a ball around a pitch' takes a f*** of a lot more skill than 'throwing a ball around a pitch'.

Nice though, the ones I have met:)

I will be on the Lions tour, getting to see the second and third test in Wellington and Auckland. Fiji before that for 4 days, and Sydney after for 4 days,..... can't wait.

I suspect there won't be any football talk during that three weeks, especially as it is close season in the UK anyway.
