Commander said:Is there anyone on here who is based in Auckland? Have been here for a week now and don't know many people. Feeling the need to meet people who actually know about 'soccer' instead of all these idiots wanting to talk about rugby!
Waterhall Wizard said:Hope that you were there in time for the Farmer's Parade. It's strange to get a Christmas parade in those warm temperatures.
Give the locals from The City of Sails a chance. Like most Kiwis, you will find them to be amongst the most friendly people in the world.
Enjoy New Zealand, Commander. Don't bore the pants off of them by talking football all of the time.
Commander said:Went to a pub last night to watch the Chelsea game and it was full of Chinese Chelsea fans. Quite bizzare.

Waterhall Wizard said:Queen Street, no doubt? Have they finished the station site at the bottom of it?
Italiaseagull said:Aucklands a dump! Wellington is much nicer. Get yourself over to Sydney for Christmas pissup!
GNF on Tour said:Yep. Looks quite good, very big by Kiwi standards, would compare to a slap of paint at the Old Steine though.

I worked there for 5 months in '99 & loved the place. Yes I got all round the country too, including windy city.
Kiwi's don't do footie mate. I was in Alexandria on the south island when Man U were in the European Cup Final. Couldn't find anywhere to watch it, or anyone that knew what it was!
Auckland, top place!

damn it, i'm jealous!
Waterhall Wizard said:Pleased to hear that GNF. I trust that the old post office building has been transformed and returned to its former glory. It must be good to be able to cross those lights at the bottom of Queens Street and get to the piers and ferries without having the detour around those bloody ugly hoardings.
Spent a few weeks in Wellington. Once you get used to the hills you do get a feel for the place. The missus wasn't keen though. I don't know why. I stopped trying to fathom her out years ago.
We were both agreed that, accross the water, sleepy Picton was a delight. In fact most of the south island made our mouth water, apart from Greymouth. Spent a few weeks in Christchurch. That's a lovely city.

GNF on Tour said:When a kiwi starts talking rugby just say "there is only one sport that matters and you just lost to Vanuatu at it" - that shuts them up.
Actually, quite looking forward to the Lions tour though.
Commander - I have been here for about 3 years via Wellington (just in time to miss 2 champo seasons). There was another Albion lad in Ork but he has not posted for a while.
