he is Ok but does make mistakes when I've seen him play. In short he reminds me of a kerry mayo with slightly more pace

You mean he's ginger, and he has a wife who is also called Andrew?

The only thing was that Deano really only played for us, if my memory serves me right, apart from his time in the Netherlands. I am now wracking my brains to think of people who he played with, for the Albion, who may be in positions where they may be considered valuable contacts.

He was at the club at the same time as Terry Connor - now coaching at Wolves. I also remember an article about him talking to Paul McGuinness who played for us briefly and is now the assistant Directory of 17-21 year olds at Manchester United.

So have I, a very nice bacon butty.

I am not sure about the complaint that Dean Wilkins has no contacts, look at some of the managers he worked under: Coppell, Taylor and Adams, all of whom would probably still hold us high in their affections. The fact that none saw fit to try and replace him surely reflects their respect for him. If it comes to taking players on loan we can do a lot worse than borrow from the likes of Reading, Hull and Coventry, and don't forget that Liam Brady is a big cheese at the Arse, he may also be in a position to help out from time to time.

Why Hull?! You don't mean Palace do you?!!

Great news that we have more defensive reinforcements - OGH doesn't look that comfortable at rightback. Must be at the medium-term expense of Adam El Abd I guess, shame that this talented player can't quite hold his place down.

Thanks to Micky Adams - you'd guess this must be mentor Knight calling in some old favours, as he did previously when we got Trevor Benjamin.

Will be interested to see what excuse the "McGhee Apologists" will come up with if we sign these players either on loan or permanently. After all we have to take into consideration "The Withdean Factor" that no one will sign for us because of Withdean.

Well, I'll say that under McGhee we got better players like McShane and Gifton Noel-Williams, and it's a shame that the board did not back McGhee in acquiring the latter, he has now been taken off the transfer list at Burnley due to his recent excellent form.

Much as I admire El Abd as a defender he doesn't offer much going forward. Bearing in mind his deficiencies in the air due to height making him an unlikely centre half his opportunities might be limited now.

Weezle, apologies for my grave error, I must be either behind the times or have managed to conveniently block out of my mind the fact that Taylor is now in charge at Smellhurst, don't think we will get much in the way of loans from them!

Also under McGhee we never replaced Dan Harding for a season and a half. McGhee did get some good signings for us, but towards the end of his Albion career he went for pie in the sky stuff like Geoff Horsfield, instead of being realistic.
In past posts I have stated that I thoght Carole was money wasted. Well if we sign these two French guys via Carole's agent and they are any good I will take my words back.

Agree with that, El-Abd looks like a centreback when he plays rightback but he is not the greatest in the air and his positioning is sometimes iffy, I can't see him holding down a place unless he sorts that out, although it's a close call between him and Santos.

Whing should be a good signing, and it's good to see Wilkins recognises the need for actual fullbacks.

Season and a half? What are you talking about? Harding hasn't been gone for a season and a half. I'll give you half a season at most, Lynch made his debut at leftback at the beginning of January.

The fact is good leftbacks are like rocking horse shit, take a look at the Forest leftback today to see how hard it is to find a good one.

Loan signing for debut
By Andy Naylor
Albion have bolstered their leaking defence by signing rightback Andrew Whing on a month's loan from Micky Adams' Coventry.

The 22-year-old goes straight into the side to face Blackpool at Withdean (1.30pm).

The Seagulls are hoping Whing's arrival will help shore up a back four which has let in nine goals during four straight defeats.

continued...
Assistant manager Dean White has been tracking the Birmingham-born defender for some time but former Albion chief Adams would not let Whing go until his first choice rightback, David McNamee, completed a suspension.

The Seagulls have seen off competition from Swindon for Whing, who has made 76 Championship starts for Coventry since graduating from their youth academy in February 2003.

The latest of his six appearances for the Sky Blues this season came in their 1-0 defeat by Plymouth at the Ricoh Arena last weekend.

White said: "I've been trying to get him since Dean Wilkins and myself took over. I spoke to Micky about him and he is a good signing for us.

"He is still young but he has played at a higher level and we need to strengthen the defence."

Whing's capture reduces the chances of Albion signing French rightback Jean-Martial Kipre.

The 22-year-old from Paris St Germain has been training with the Seagulls after featuring in a friendly against Le Havre on Tuesday and they would like to extend his trial for a little longer.

Albion have ended their interest in 32-year-old Congo international leftback Moke Kajima, who also figured against Le Havre.

5:00pm today

Thanks Micky...Alll gratefully recievied

Dan Harding left Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2005. When we drew up at Leeds in the 2005/06 season I was there and saw him play crap and get massive amounts of abuse from us Albion fans. So to be exact as we have played nearly 11 games this season I would say he has been gone for nearly a season and a quarter.
