Some acts can pull off being wasted and still be good on stage. I saw Primal Scream at Glastonbury in 2005 and Bobby Gillespie could hardly stand or talk but they somehow did a good set.

Although Oasis did party hard in their day, most of their cancelled shows were caused by Liam and Noel falling out!

I'm not a huge fan - but she is definietely not a one song wonder. I love Amy Winehouse's version of Valerie - I know she's know for "Rehab" but valerie is quite a special interpretation of the Zutons song.

Think we'll look back in years to come and see this as a classic.

What's great about it? I'm yet to hear anyone explain WHY it's such a good voice, all people say is "but she's got a great voice" without qualifying it. I can tell you exactly why I think it's shit - can you tell me what's good about it? She's got a fairly limited range, no great power and, as I said previously, it's horribly nasal. Hence I don't think it's very good. She's hardly comparable to Gladys Knight, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, etc. is she?

I'm not putting her in the same bracket as Aretha Franklin! I'm putting her in the very top bracket of female vocalists in the last 20 years. Not sure we're going to agree on this and it's difficult to describe why a voice is good. However, I do think it's like me saying that Phil Collins is a shit drummer or Slash is a shit guitarist, it doesn't matter what you think of either or their music, their quality is pretty much unarguable IMHO. And although we can discuss this for hours, musicians everywhere are pretty much argreed on that quality.

THats her problem if someone could keep her straight enough at gig time, then let her do whatever she wants to herself for the rest of the time, most people wouldn't mind...

Is the George and Dragon in Speldhurst still as good as it used to be? It was a cracking little pub when I used to frequent it around 1980-1985...

But I haven't been in there in more than 20 years... :(

Indeed. She would also look a bit more together if she wore flatter shoes as well!

I popped in there on my way to Larkins Brewery a couple of years ago and it appeared to be one of these trendy gastro-pub/restaurant type places.

G&D is still a cracker. Great beer and genuine 13th century ambiance. It's gone a bit gastro pub (and it's a corker if that's your bag), but the beer is still superb. In the few years I've been here I've been weaned off Harvey's onto a local brew called Larkins. It's not half bad as a session pint.

Larkins Trad is a cracking session brew, have you tried their Porter?

Grendel, were you humming "So here we are once more, in the playground of the broken heart" to yourself?

I cannot remember the details but there were a few sing-songs in the course of the day and Marillion may have cropped up at some point. However it was not our first port of call that day and ale had been consumed well, if not necessarily wisely.

Out of interest Hiney, how good would you look outside your place at 5.40am with a photographer's flash in your face?

I'm pretty sure Hiney wouldn't be walking the streets in his bra, at 5am.

Probably.
