Maybe the design isn't BORING enough, like the King Alfred.
As an aside, anyone know whats going on at that site north of the A27 just east of West Hove Golf Club. Lots of digger activity. I always thought it was a SWINE getting planning permission for sites north of the A27.
It will be interesting to see what recommendation Lewes make, because part of the site lies in Lewes District. Ironic if Lewes support it.
The Argus have only just picked up the story from NSC now.
However, they include this bit too: "The council has received independent advice from Crosthwaites Leisure Property Specialists who believe the development cost of a mid-range hotel makes it unviable and therefore requires the club’s subsidiary company The Community Stadium to build it at a loss."
Is this actually true or just an urban myth? I would have thought the boundary would have been the main road between Falmer and Woodingdean.

In fairness I have wondered how well the hotel alone would actually do in that location, am I correct in thinking at some point a casino was proposed what happened to that idea ?

Curious that. The article stops short of saying this is the reason for the recommendation for refusal, but that seems to be the implication. It's not something I was aware that planning officers took into account.

Why on earth, are the council spending money on consultants to check the financial viability of a private firms development.
The council tax is clearly too high if they can fritter it away on this sort of thing. Why on earth, are the council spending money on consultants to check the financial viability of a private firms development.

If they are concerned that hotel will be built at a loss, how the holy moly did they approve the Amex.....
