There's no better example of the difference between the nation, and the political nation. Assault weapon bans and other restriction the sale and ownership of firearms poll well, often 2-1 or more in favor. But you've got one major political party committed to seeing that they never pass, and the commitment of the minority opposed is insane.

Equally you could add that the other political party is too timid or, probably quite logically, views that it holds insufficient political capital to do anything about it. And that it's a non-political body from the nation, which even invokes the name of the nation in its very first name, that drives the agenda, and is funded by other non-political bodies that holds the wealth.

There are 2 or 3 per week but most don't make international news. Under the definition that a mass shooting is 2 or more I think there were around 200 last year in the US. I haven't verified the number though.

When politicians start to listen to the majority of Americans and enact gun control. Unfortunately, money, power and a rigged electoral system keep the loud minority with disproportionate enough power to keep things as they are.
Make them insure themselves and their weapons.
Anyone then caught without gun insurance, confiscate their weapons and heavily fine them.
I would imagine the insurance companies would love a slice of that pot, and would insist on a very high premium. Eventually, they would not be able to afford to keep their lethal toys.
Thoughts and prayers usually works wonders. Rinse and repeat.
It's part of their constitution, and a noisy bunch of wankers think this is the be all.

And thank f*** we don't have something equivalent written in the constitution (of the Church of England - the nation doesn't have one) to trigger the devout whenever change is threatened. To be fair to the C of E, there is no chance of these kindly folk invoking such madness.

Not sure you’ve understood. People who massacre dozens of their fellow citizens, in a country where registered guns top 300million never mind the illegal ones, don’t tend to worry about completing paperwork. The only safe alternative is probably to emigrate.
