Tbh, this is the job I've been most worried about, but I heard on the radio that Villa are expected to go after Paul Lambert.

Now this would worry me a little...if Norwich lost PL, i could see THEM making a move for Gus. They have a good team with no massive egos, who have had an amazing season, they have players suited to Gus's style, and to boot, he'd prob have more control over the club than he would at Villa, with less pressure i suggest. God it's gonna be a long summer!

Gus would be a favourite to replace the managers at both Wigan and Norwich they play the game he likes and their supporters will appreciate him

He wouldn't to either of them, same size clubs as us, no point. Lerner fortunately won't take another punt on a manager, he will appoint a top experienced manager....if he can get one to sign up of course.

Gus says time and time again that his easiest way of meeting his Premier club ambitions is with Brighton - I feel confident that he would not leave us at the moment except for a job which he could guarantee that he would not be sacked by Xmas. Villa simply isn't a job like that at the moment.

Exactly this.....hopefully.

Big club Villa. Fair enough if he went but something tells me he would prefer to get a big job in London. If Big Sam fails to get West Ham up then I could see West Ham come calling. With the Olympic ground then West Ham could be a very big project as they have a big support. However he will have to think hard before leaving the Albion as clearly the Albion are on its way to big things under Bloom. Other than the big 4 London clubs, there is not a bigger job in the South East.

Much as we all think Gus is great why would Villa want him, he has no track record the likes of Ranieri are already throwing their hats in the ring Gus is not ready to go anywhere at this time, next year maybe a different story.

Seriously?

If Villa came after him, do you honestly think he'd turn them down?

I don't, and wouldn't blame him. They are a sleeping giant, that even asleep, are bigger than I think we could become. I think it would be very hard to turn down.

Why would they

Gus would be a MASSIVE gamble for a Premier club. He has suspect temperament under pressure and is a bit of a bull in a china shop on the PR front. I'm really not that worried. I hope he stays and he will get better with experience but if he goes we are an extremely attractive proposition and will attract quality managers

Albion are bigger than Gus Poyet.

Brighton & Hove Albion is a much better job than Aston Villa. They are a massive club, but whoever the next manager will be is set up to fail - they have dwindling finances with massive wages & high expectations from the fans.

Gus could go there, not do very well and be sacked by Xmas. He would be a fool to go there when he has such a good thing at Brighton & he knows this.

Why do people think gus is actually good enough for the prem,in my opinion he has a long way to go before he's even good enough for such a job,he won't be high on the list for this job im sure of that, far better managers out there.

Gus needs another 2-3 years experience to be considered for a managerial position in the Premier League but by then he could already be in that situation without leaving us.

When were they last the Champions? They have history, but so do Notthingham Forest. Doesn't make them a massive club. Aston Villa have been in the top flight for decades, but in my life time supporting football they have been also rans, only when Martin O'Neill was spending big were they consistently in the top 6.

With all due respect you aren't that old. They are a big club with a big fan base.

And definantly this!

There are a number of better candidates at the moment. I would imagine Gus lost a lot of his "value" with our poor run in. it's the second time in a season he proved he cannot/will not adapt to get the best out of his team. He may go on to great things, he may just fade away and be forgotton about in a few seasons like so many have before him, but he certainly won't be on many premiership radars at the moment. Certainly not the "big club" we all think he'll leave for, and I think Villa aer a big club.

After the shit season they've had with a unproven manager, they will go for somene with a proven record, not an up and coming rookie. They can afford to get it wrong again and Gus would be to huge a gamble for them at the moment.

As i said above, i truly believe it depends on TB and the rest of the board matching Gus's ambitions....if they don't, he'll be off...of that i have no doubt.
It's a two way thing, because as much as thats true, I think Gus has also got to deliver on TB and the boards expectations

Problem with Norwich is that it would be a bit like following Curbishley into Charlton ... the previous manager has already set the bar unbelievably high, and they would appear to only be able to go one way.

Talking to a couple of Aston Villa fans this morning who are fairly close to the club and they say that they are after Martinez with Lambert as second choice and Gus also on the shortlist.

Not worried as I think that after Whelan's "make a decision" deadline, Martinez will be thinking it's time to move on. I would be more concerned if Rodgers does go to Liverpool as the Swansea board will surely come looking to talk to Gus?

I don't think Swansea are enough ahead of us for Gus to go there. Longer term we are the better bet I would say.
