Eleven Offered Deals

By Paul Camillin

Albion will offer new contracts to eleven of the fifteen out-of-contract professionals this close season.

Appearance-related clauses within their existing deals mean that the experienced pair of Gary Hart and Kerry Mayo have already qualified for new one-year deals. While Alexis Bertin, Guy Butters, Michel Kuipers, Doug Loft and Sam Rents will be offered new contracts.

Adam Hinshelwood and Paul Reid - both expected to be fit for pre-season - will also be offered new deals, as will Wes Fogden. The first-year pro has had little opportunity to prove himself at senior level after being diagnosed with a tumor in his back just weeks after signing professional forms.

Fogden is now back to fitness and figured in the last few reserve matches of the season. Club captain Charlie Oatway is also closer to a playing return, and will be handed a month-to-month deal as he bids to make his return to full fitness.

Players being released are Chris Breach, defender Paul Hinshelwood, goalkeeper Richard Martin and French defender Georges Santos - who ended the season on loan at Oxford United.

Manager Dean Wilkins said, "We'd like to thank the players we're releasing for their efforts over the season and wish them all the best for the future.

"Negotiations with those being retained will be finalised over the next week or so. While at the same time our efforts to bring in new faces continues."

No suprises there...except maybe Michel, who's apparently been offered a much lower wage.

Either way, indications are that we won't be making many changes to the squad:nono:

what's happening to Frutos or does he have longer to run on his current contract?

He's been offered lower terms. There's no guarantee he'll sign it

Seriously, can we honestly afford a clear out of these players. Unless of course you're willing to play next season.

We might be able to attract a handful of new players but no more. We need to keep on most of the above, maybe with the exception of Mayo...imo.

i see your point, but the current squad has lost a good keeper ( flinders) a decent full back/ Centre back - Rehman and OGooner

therefore we will need to strenghthen these positions which I would suggest a couple of the players retained will not do that.

I assume we will hit the loan market hard again!

Not necessarily.

Of those out of contract, it's only Mayo, Oatway and Loft that some people have the hump about retaining. The other 12, by implication, would be popular choices for retention. As it is, 11 - not 12 - have been offered deals. How many of them will accept them is something we will have to wait and see.

And from there, we can work out how much money is left to acquire others like Whing or Flinders or Rehman or that elusive 25-goal a season striker.

He is not on the list, as he has another year.

Well I hope he pulls his finger out, he was a major disappointment this season
