Interesting to see that Southampton have 2 games to play against Walsall, 2 against Charlton, and 2 against Hartlepool.

And that 'udders still have to play Brentford and D&R twice.

So we shouldn't get too excited that we also have to play D&R twice.

Just to perhaps calm everyone down a bit, here are the Leeds stats for the first 23 games and the second 23 games last season:

First 23 games:
W17 D5 L1 F45 A13 Pt 56
(W13 D7 L3 F42 A18 Pt 46 - BHA this season)
Leeds looked a nigh on unbeatable side who will win the league with a record points total.

Second 23 games:
W8 D6 L9 F32 A31 Pt 30
This form across the season would have put them one place and one point ahead of .... Brighton & Hove Albion.

It does reinforce what an average league it is this season. If we don't get promotion now we may not have a better chance for years

Pessimistically, W 12 D 5 L 6 = 87 pts. This season only good enough for third place?

87 would certainly be good enough - 85 should almost definitely do it! Two other teams would have to do extremely well in the second half of the season to pip us even then. Could even go up with as little as 80 points.

If 85 is the target, to achieve that we'd have to have a pretty mediocre second half of the season - something like:

Bournemouth A L

Colchester H W

Leyton Orient A D

Bristol Rovers A W

Hartlepool H D

Plymouth H W

MK Dons A L

Yeovil A W

Carlisle H W

Brentford A L

Tranmere H W

Oldham A L

Notts County H W

Swindon H W

Dagenham A W

Rochdale A D

Sheff Wed H D

Dagenham H W

Walsall A W

Southampton H L

Colchester A D

Huddersfield H L

Notts County A D

This is all just hypotheticals, just concentrate of winning our games and we will be there that's all

This! Just win the next game.............and if we can go on doing it for the rest of the season, we'll have Championship football AND UEFA Cup football at Falmer next season!

Slightly annoying that the rearranged fixtures are both towards the end of the season when they will be fighting for their lives to stay in the division. We'd have been better off playing them mid-season.

Our last four fixtures are no picnic - SCC and Udders at home, Colchester and Notts away. Hopefully it will almost be in the bag before then.

As we are now pretty much 3/4 of the way through, I thought I would update these:

If you take 85 to be the average for finishing second and automatic promotion, the Albion would need a further 14 points. They could get this by winning five and losing seven of the twelve remaining. Or winning three, drawing five and losing four etc.

If you take 93 points being the average to the win the league, the Albion would need a further 22 points. They could get this by winning seven, drawing one and losing four games. Or by winning six, drawing four and losing two etc.

Huddersfield

Huddersfield in second have 10 games left so a potential maximum of a further 30 points.

To get the average 85 points for second, they would need a further 22 points. This would involve seven wins, one draw and two defeats from their last ten games.

To get the average 93 points to win the league, they would need a further 30 points from the last ten games, i.e. to win all of them!!

Peterborough

Peterborough in third have 11 games left so a potential maximum of a further 33 points.

To get the average 85 points for second, they would need a further 23 points. This would involve seven wins, two draws and two defeats from their last eleven games.

To get the average 93 points to win the league, they would need a further 31 points from the last eleven games, i.e. to win ten, draw one and not lose any!!

Saints

Saints in fourth have 12 games left so a potential maximum of a further 36 points.

To get the average 85 points for second, they would need a further 24 points. This would involve eight wins and four defeats from their last twelve games.

To get the average 93 points to win the league, they would need a further 32 points from the last twelve games, i.e. to win ten, draw two and not lose any!!

Bournemouth

Bournemouth in fifth have 10 games left so a potential maximum of a further 30 points.

To get the average 85 points for second, they would need a further 24 points. This would involve eight wins and two defeats from their last ten games.

To get the average 93 points to win the league, they would need a further 32 points from the last ten games, which would be a virtually impossible task.

Interesting to note that of all the teams we've played twice this season, the only one we've failed to beat at least once is Bournmouth. That bodes well for the Southampton and Huddersfield visits to Withdean

Only a 'virtually' impossible task...? So you think there's a chance they may do it? :)

Well it would be impossible to do the average needed for the title clearly!

However, if less than the average was required (91 points instead of 93), they could just about manage it (albeit by winning every game remaining!).

Interesting that you say that Severnside. In the last couple of weeks the points per position comparing this season and last season are looking more and more similar. The incredible form of most of the top six or so has meant that the table is far less skewed than it looked earlier on this year.
