Albion agreed to Reading's offer for Gus Poyet?

You are suggesting that if the above speculation is true, the reason he changed his mind was because of loyalty to Albion?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!

of course not, there is next to no loyalty in football on any side. But considering all the half-baked idiots on here that got their knickers in a twist about his comments on chelsea and the like there is a certain irony in this thread

Pretty confident Poyet was never offered the job. I was invited to England/Ireland game at Wembley a couple of months ago by business associate. Nigel Adkins and his 2 sons were in the same corporate box. Turned out the guy who invited me has known Adkins since they were kids. I got talking to the guy who invited me and told him I was a Brighton fan and we discussed the Poyet/Adkins Reading situation. The guy told me that Adkins was always their number 1 choice and Poyet was not offered the job, thinks it was more of a possible back up if Adkins didn't take the job.

As an aside, had a brief chat with Adkins, seemed an ok guy tbh. Discussed the 'keeping up' comment and he just laughed it off as completely tongue in cheek but I forgot to mention the guard of honour (or lack of it). However, he didn't mention he was going after Wayne Bridge!!

Do you really think that Smug Adkins would admit to you that in fact HE was 2nd choice???

I thought it was already known that the club gave him permission to talk to Reading? Am I imagining that??

He didn't go because either it didn't appeal given their almost certain relegation or because he thought that, having asked to speak to them, it would give him more bargaining power in future with the Albion.

No irony unless true. It isn't.

Giving permission to talk is NOT the same as "Albion agreed to Reading's offer"

Am I sailing too close to unfounded speculation if I say that I heard he was actually on his way to sign and changed his mind and came back?

If so I'll delete the above...

Heard something slightly different, in that, the club drove him to Gatwick for the meeting with Reading prior to him going on the trip to ?Barbados. Apparently whilst away he made the decision as it 'was only Reading'....... At least this is what somebody very close to Gus had mentioned at a dinner.

When you think of the chain of events, it is plausible, but all hearsay and rumour of course...... We'll probably never know until Gus brings out his book!!! ???

Frankly don't really care any more.

Brings out his book, or maybe if he chooses to go to court against our club. That last bit is the ONLY thing that interests me about Gus now.

I don't think he will, too much of a high risk strategy. I'm sure he'll be a new role by October....... probably Palace or another club that is struggling.

Again, I point out all the contradictory stories that seem to come out from supposedly well placed, in the know sources, and how no one can really be sure. Anyone who is certain their source is right, imo, does so because it's the version they want to believe.

To be honest I don't care about Gus anymore other than to wish him well, but I actually think it's very different to that - Gus was very popular until early May, and things that happened turned a fair number against him. My guess is most of those didn't want to take a view against him, but took one in spite of their previous outlook.

My comment works for those that still want to believe gus did nothing wrong and the club have screwed him, too, with them believing sources that paint the situation that way because it's what they want.

I don't want to believe the version of events that I've heard, but, since it comes from several very well-informed sources, it seems very possible that it's true.

The Club, of course, will have its own reasons for wanting its own version of events to be accepted.

I agree.

As someone else has said, Gus is gone and we move on.

However of one thing Im sure, Lord B has been the one consistent and honest person whose opinion I have been able to rely on the last ten years and if he believes things are not what many seem to think on here, I believe him.

Still, it's history and we cant go back. the die is cast.
