I'd agree that was probably the best bit - when his co-presenter said "crossing her legs" and simultaneously he said "fanny." But it just felt odd that best bit of the show was a reference to a fim that's 30 years old.

I loved it, but even you are a fan it's marmite. I found with the first series you have to watch it again. Hopefully they will also pull something out the bag like the IRA singing Alan lookalike farmer.

I pissed myself at one aside tonight, the letter from the kid who the other presenter said may be running the BBC one day.

"mmm, don't think so. Went to a state school.."

That was brilliant. There isn't another comedy character in British tv that can come close to the quantity and quality that AP has put out. Have been a massive fan since On the Hour and always think at some point it can't continue at such a high standard but it does. Radio show, spoof chat show, spoof docu-soap, internet shorts, documentaries, film, books, book review show, podcast, peaktime magazine show, have I missed anything? The film was soso by AP standards but still pretty good.
Looking forward to the rest of this.

I really enjoyed the first episode but I am a long time AP fan so maybe I'm biased. He does seem to recycle some material in different ways but that's Alan Partridge. It felt a bit like he's gone back to the feel of Knowing Me Knowing You, especially with that ending.

I loved the little touches like his knees crunching as he squated and how the set is slightly too big and it takes a second too long to walk anywhere.

It raised a chuckle here and there but it’s not Alan at his best. I’ll watch anything AP, I think he’s an absolute triumph but for me it’s; I’m Alan Partridge series 1 & 2, I’d put them on an equal footing, Mid Morning Matters, then the swathe of specials, books, podcasts, radio and film and I’m sorry to say, This Time really does lag behind in the Partridge lexicon. I think he’s at his best when he’s down on his luck and there’s something about TT that doesn’t ring true.
Not my words....

I love Alan Partridge but there’s something about his recent incarnations that’s just slightly ‘off’. Even the voice seems different. I think This Time skewers the ‘One Show’ brilliantly, but that’s the joke - more than Partridge himself. Still enjoyable but not a patch on his best work.

This for me is at the nub of it. The best AP is the stuff that stays just this side of being believable. This Time crosses that line so all we are left with is parody.

In many ways it just feels like a 30 minute sketch show.

I like some of his stuff, but last night's episode was 30mins of the worst TV I have seen for quite a long time. Embarrassing for all concerned.

I couldn't disagree more. I'll avoid spoilers, but the exchange that happened under the end titles left me laughing for ages afterwards. That bit was equal to some of the best Baynham/Iannucci moments from the first series of IAP and, although that quality is not sustained throughout, having even small moments of that standard is an absolute joy.

Thank you Naysayers. I was expecting episode 2 to disappoint but I thought it was excellent.

I agree that Coogan has set a high bar for Partridge, but even if he falls a bit short it is dramatically better than the other shite TV serves up.

As a big fan of John Thomson I was pleased to see him make a return.

Haven’t watched second episode yet but first was very strong, looking forward to it.

Mid Morning Matters was amongst the best of Partridge (IAP Series 1) and so far TT isn’t quite up to the same level, but brewing nicely at the start of this season.

The return of Joe Beasley and Cheeky Monkey just highlight how this series is trying too hard and failing. It just wasn't very funny and that goes for most of both series of This Time I'm afraid. Some of it makes you laugh but by and large it misses the mark.

This Time just doesn't seem right in AP's timeline. He isn't a successful daytime TV presenter, that is the point of AP. He had his big chance on radio, then KMKY before blowing both, then we watched his move into local media after his marriage fell apart and finally his dalliance with local radio and Sidekick Simon. Now he's leapt into national TV again? What is that all about? Some of the two minute features are a crock of shit too.

I completely agree with this. I was a little disappointed when I found out they were making a second series of This Time. The first series was hit and miss (more miss) and I just don't see how the second series would fit into the Partridge progression.

He came in as last minute cover for This Time, did a piss poor job and had a massive falling out with his co-presenter. At this stage I think they should have gone back to an I'm Alan Partridge style series with him despreate to get back in.

A few moments have made me chuckle but the whole thing feels quite forced and they're lazily using the same jokes over again.

Second episode was a bit flat I thought, but still had some good moments.

I’m just not really sure what we are supposed to watching or what the premise is. For certain bits we watch it as a viewer then other parts are the candid stuff, when they cut to a feature. So it ends up being neither one thing nor another. I believe it would work better if the entire 30 minutes was ‘fly on the wall’ rather than mixing it with the broadcast output. If that makes sense.
