I think Mike Ashley has gone from totally mad to Insanity. Houghton who worked on a shoestring budget, won them the Championship by a absolute margin last season. To this season, where everyone was expecting them to be fighting for their lifes near the bottom of the Premiershite and has got them to Mid-Table safety. He got results against Arsenal, chelsea and even beat their nearest rivals 6-1. Ok they've been a bit jerkyl and hyde. But they aint near the bottom of the table, with the three teams I expected to be down there at the moment which are Wigan, Wolves and West Ham. If I were a fan of any of the teams at the bottom of the Premiershite, I would be licking my lips because now Pardew taking over Newcastle could mean one thing RELEGATION! Mike Ashley is the most bizarre and insane man on this planet, and if I were a Newcastle fan I would be protesting to get this man out of their club.

Same here. I also asked a woman at work who's husband is a fan about his reaction and was told it involved silence, head shaking and looking at the floor. Depression is setting in massively.

:D

To be honest when I heard the news about his sacking, I was little worried aswell. But Mike Ashley is a complete bald headed idiot and isn't a footballing chairman. All he cares about is cash in his pocket.

Not Luton! Thank God
All these people who moan about foreign owners!! At least the Glazers make decisions based on business sense i.e. have a good manager, win more, earn more

Ashley is just using Newcastle as his play thing. He dislikes Hughton for a second so sacks him and replaces him with someone one of his mates has met at a casino!

Confirmed on the BBC website:

Newcastle United have appointed Alan Pardew as the club's new manager on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Pardew - dismissed by League One side Southampton in August - replaces Chris Hughton, who was sacked on Monday.

"I am honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to nail one of the players's wives at one of the truly great clubs in English football," said the 49-year-old.

His first match in charge of the club, who are 12th in the Premier League, is at home to Liverpool on Saturday.

He might do it to stiff Southampton more!

He wouldn't even let us have him to hurt South Coast Club-the man is a nasty, vindictive, ex-Palace weasel. At least we now know that we need a left winger in January, on a permanent contract.

I wish him nothing but failure at Newcastle.

Funny you should say that. The sun is reporting Ashley is "only" offering £750K for the job (which put off Jol and O'neill - for comparison Ancelotti is on £6.5m), and that there is no compensation if it doesn't work out, but if he keeps them up he will be rewarded with a generous bonus. He is running it like he runs his sportsdirect business.

Apparently Hughton was on £450K.

BBC Sport - Football - Bosses question Alan Pardew taking Newcastle United job

Alan Pardew has admitted that other managers have questioned his decision to become the new boss at Newcastle.

The Magpies, who controversially sacked Chris Hughton on Monday, have used seven different managers over the last five-and-a-half years.

"I've had a lot of texts from managers saying 'you must be mad going there'," said Pardew, 49, on Thursday.

"But it's one of the top five clubs in England. It's a daunting prospect but something I couldn't turn down."

Of course you have had a lot of text messages saying the same thing, Alan.

When was Newcastle last in the top five, Alan?

Five and a half year contract for an unemployed manager? Of course you couldn't turn it down, Alan.
