Just when Newcastle had finally started to shake off their comedy club status by getting promotion to the PL and sitting in a respectable 11th place and having successfully handed over the baton of comedy club to Southampton, what do they do? Yes folks you just couldn't make it up, they appoint the man largely responsible for Southampton taking over as most laughed at club!

I still think its a close run thing now though between the Scummers and the Geordies. The Scummers are just shading it at the moment though what with the impending news of their owners about to pull the plug!

I would think that Pardew would jump at the chance of working again especially in the premiership as even a short while will improve his bank balance when he gets the sack.

Has Ashley not a death wish or does he just like hospital food ??

It's a political appointment. Mike Ashley and Pardew are apparently mates, and Ashley wants an obedient "yes man" who won't make his job of ruining Newcastle United difficult.

From the BBC said:
Indeed, Chris Hughton, who was sacked on Monday, received more backing in the online survey by the city's paper, the Evening Chronicle, with 6% of the votes.

Out of more than 1,000 responses to the poll, Pardew claimed less than 2% (14 votes).

Tremendous work there from the Newcastle board.

I would've thought he'd have gone the Kinnear route again. Long term out of work relic of a manager to bring more embarrasment & disgrace to the club.

Sometimes, it really is more embarrassing than normal to be a Newcastle fan. Properly ashamed of the club. To football at large, I apologise on behalf of the insane **** running the club. I trust that it's providing as much mirth to you as it is pain and confusion to 90% of the fans.

I think of all the comments this one sums it up.

As for KLL. Pardew would have been sacked by the time he has recovered so there is nothing to worry about!
I was going to say that, he could have been sacked or less likely bought some players in January.
There's not really any point worrying about LuaLua at the moment anyway.

By all accounts it's because he is the best (only?!) candidate who's willing to accept the contract that Ashley is insisting the next manager has - a (relatively) low basic wage, with the rest coming as bonuses for success. Also, no provision for a big payout for early termination etc.

As much as I think Hughton being sacked is a travesty, Pardew is an awful candidate for the job and that Ashley is a complete twat... I can't help but think that (if true), the terms of the contract are the way forward for players and managers. .

Clubs can try this - and I'm sure plenty will - but they're going to be the clubs that struggle. The teams that do well will be the ones who give their managers time. The obvious example is Ferguson, who won cock-all for years, before finally hitting the jackpot. But our own Gus has been given a lengthy contract and is setting out to transform the club from top to bottom.

If a club's in a mess, it's unrealistic to expect a manager to sort it out instantly - players' contracts won't be up and wouldn't have time to clear out the dead wood. Of course, clubs offering 6-month contracts will get takers but they're not going to be the clubs that win things.

Strange criteria Ashley had for choosing the new manager, going for a bloke who couldn't get the scummers promoted from the 3rd division to a team 11th in the premiership! You couldn't make it up!

Well my second love's chairman has descraced himself once again, THE BOARD ARE A JOKE but I believe that every NUFC fan cannot condem the appointment of that scummy old wife shagger, and I'm gutted for Chris... is a 55% win ratio not good enough for you Mr. Ashley?

And oddly enough if there was one manager who i'd like to see at the Albion (after Gus) would be Hughton, I have nothing but respect for him.

Another day, another JOKE decsion by a JOKE owner. So proud that we have Mr. Bloom; how lucky are we!?

I couldn't agree more about managers needing time.

I just like the idea that players & managers have a much bigger percentage (i.e. the vast majority) of their remuneration decided by results.
Only the most short-sighted of employers would boot someone before they have the chance to make their mark and improve things (even as I typed that I was thinking 'but how often do we see that in football??!'). It's not just the chairmen either - I seem to recall a fair number of people on here starting to doubt Gus when the defensive & disciplinary problems weren't sorted over night...

A BRILLIANT appointment, I can't wait to see how Newcastle's players respond to the David Brent of the lower leagues.

My only wish now is that we get to play them soon, as we all know Alan Pardew= an Albion win.
