I thought that Murray still has a year to go. If he wants to prolong his career, rake in the bucks and continue to live locally, then I can’t see any reason for him playing elsewhere. Good emergency striker, substitute or tactical change.
But as someone else said above, that other striker is the holy grail for our scouting team. Maybe they’ll get lucky with someone from abroad. Shame there isn’t much football going on internationally for them to take a stab at.

The reason is he wants to play.

What this season has showed is that the defence is adequate but we need another 10 to 15 goals a season to establish ourselves as a Premier League club. Maupay needs an old head with 10 to 15 goals a season with him. We will have to buy one. The academy is not going to produce such a beast for development overnight. Whilst Lallama is real quality, if we have to push the boat out, he would not be the priority, although he would be good for the club (injuries excepted).

We need those goals to come from across the team. Trossard and Connelly should contribute a few more goals next season but we need more goals from midfield even if it is only 2 or 3 goals per player. We definitely need an additional striker or 2 but past experience should tell us that does not guarantee a flood of goals (Joelinton and Haller for example). Maupay really did have a fantastic season.

If Murray wants to play why would he have signed a 1 year contract extension with us in Feb, it’s not like anything has changed since he signed it. He’d have been a free agent now and could have gone anywhere, something tells me he’s very content with his role and happy to wind down his career with us.

And perhaps the promise of a role of some sort when he does retire?

yeah

Llana will go somewhere better than us I suspect

There is nowhere better than us! Perish the thought.

He could relish the thought of helping to improve us. He isn’t a mercenary, as far as I can see.

The Liverpool connection is right, but not the player. I heard that Michael OWEN is SINGING as we speak, down at the GRAND :albion2:

I think he's very far from being "very content to wind down his career with us." You underestimate how important actually playing is to him. He won't be here next season.

All this talk of finding a striker who got "10 to 15 goals a season" like there's plenty of them, all willing to sign for Brighton.

https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals

Which one of these twenty 10+ goal scorers do you suggest should be signed?

For a first season Maupay is right up there with some well respected strikers, who are all well outside our price range.

the choices are promoting from within, buy abroad or lower leagues
