Exactly. If we didn't want to keep Glenn we wouldn't have offered him a new contract in Feb, if Glenn Murray wasn't happy with his role at the club he wouldn't have signed that contract. He's very unlikely to be going anywhere and when he calls it a day he deserves the same kind of send off that Bruno had.

And we can wheel him out twice a season to score his statutory goal against Palace

Why do people keep saying this? Who on earth is going to buy a 37-year-old striker?

And we don't just have young players: Murray, Mooy, Gross, Dunk, Burn, Webster, Propper Ryan, Montoya and Stephens are all over 25 - there's plenty of experience there.

Re Murray, my point was he will probably retire.

As for our experience, my point was we can't solely sìgn inexperienced young players. To improve you need to buy better than you already have. Not just in skill but all facets, experience being key.

Of those you mentioned, how many outfield players will be in our best 11 next season? Hopefully no more than 3 or 4. And a couple of those only playing at this level for a single season.

If we lose Glenn, our most experienced at this level, then we should plug that deficit.

What this season has showed is that the defence is adequate but we need another 10 to 15 goals a season to establish ourselves as a Premier League club. Maupay needs an old head with 10 to 15 goals a season with him. We will have to buy one. The academy is not going to produce such a beast for development overnight. Whilst Lallama is real quality, if we have to push the boat out, he would not be the priority, although he would be good for the club (injuries excepted).

All this talk of finding a striker who got "10 to 15 goals a season" like there's plenty of them, all willing to sign for Brighton.

Which one of these twenty 10+ goal scorers do you suggest should be signed?

It's quite unrealistic to believe that the club will have two 10+ goal strikers, and pretty crazy to believe in two 15+ goal strikers.

Realistic expectations is that Maupay reaches about 15 and that Connolly, new striker and Murray together get 10. That would be improvement enough just looking at the strikers.

The other key to improve the number of goals scored is to get more from midfield and wing-backs. Pröpper, Stephens, Bissouma and Alzate scored a total of one goal. Not good enough. Montoya, Schelotto, Burn, Bernardo and Lamptey also scored a total of one goal. Not good enough.

Whilst a new striker would be exciting, it's hardly where we've lacked goals during our Premier League tenure. Each of the previous three seasons we've had a lone striker score double digits. Apart from Callum Wilson last season Glenn has been the most dangerous striker currently playing for a bottom half club. Maupay has had a great first season and can only see him improving. We've been extremely competent in this sense.

The obvious gap is that we are missing goals from midfield. Yes, Trossard has chipped in with 5 this season and Pascal had a good return of 7 in our first season, but over three seasons, all of our CMs grouped together (Stephens, Kayal, Bissouma, Propper, Mooy) have scored 6 goals. Whilst I'm unsure that Lallana is the answer, a Premier League quality (winner in this case) central midfielder who can consistently contribute goals is needed. Before his injury, Lallana was very much this - whether he still is, is up for debate, but he would be a coup having just won the Premier League, Champions League and Club World Cup.

Why is it unrealistic, if we genuinely have ambitions to be a top 10 side then we will need two strikers that can score 10+ a season, or get bloody close. Burnley have had that in Wood and Barnes the last couple of seasons and have added Jay Rodriguez into the mix this season too. This season Wood has 13, Rodriguez 8 and Barnes 6 and he's missed half the season injured so he should be pushing 10+ again. It's Burnley FFS they aren't anything special but if they can do it so can we.

I agree we need more goals from our midfield, but it's not beyond us to have two strikers scoring 10+, we just need to find another one, which is the tough part as every club at our end of the table is interested in that type of player.

They're isn't one we can sign who is ready made thats for sure. Maupay proves though that we can get one from outside that group either from the lower leagues or abroad. For the recruitment team this is the Holy Grail. These are the guys who will change our team dynamic and move us up the league. We are fantastic at finding central defenders, a young upwardly mobile striker and someone who can get goals from midfield are a bit more tricky...

I doubt very much Murray will retire. He's in great shape, wants to play and is still well capable of scoring goals. Potter, rightly, cannot guarantee him first team football so he'll sign for another club. If I had to guess it'd be in the south/London probably in the Championship or maybe in League One - if the right offer came along.

We will sign another striker who is capable of scoring 10 goals +

I thought that Murray still has a year to go. If he wants to prolong his career, rake in the bucks and continue to live locally, then I can’t see any reason for him playing elsewhere. Good emergency striker, substitute or tactical change.
But as someone else said above, that other striker is the holy grail for our scouting team. Maybe they’ll get lucky with someone from abroad. Shame there isn’t much football going on internationally for them to take a stab at.

I agree with you. Our goalscoring record from CM since we've been in the PL has been dire. That said, I'm struggling to remember any of this lot scoring a goal. When was that?

Why are people talking about Murray retiring? He signed a one year deal to stay for next season.
