I'm not sure what a ban would achieve. I certainly don't think France is the model to follow given their record of recent attacks.

Eh? I merely said he was a Muslim, in order to make the point that his wife wears a burqa.

Why does it matter what part of his religious life is moderate?

Because you said he was moderate and I posed the question how has the term 'moderate' been lent to so many people that by comparison to western civilisation are religious zealots, the representation of a British woman wearing a burkha to me remains a symbol of oppression and inequality.

It seems to me like all religions it needs a fair slice of dismissive ridicule, Islam shouldn't claim special privilege nor should we empower there position by feeling uneasy to challenge when necessary.

I want to live in a free country and that means allowing people to do stuff I don't agree with, don't understand and don't want. It's a price, I think, worth paying.

We dont just live in a free country, its been earnt, fought for and upheld, there is never price worth paying to undermine it.

Nope, just respect it.

P.S: What culture has communism as a religion? A very confused post.

What is this heightened regard for religious people and their beliefs, I might like a person that is religious but wouldn't respect them because they are religious, quite the contrary ............... ?

Interesting. Religion does seem to enjoy special dispensation and frankly gets away with a lot. I respect someones right to follow Islam or Buddhism or Christianity as equally as I respect someone's right to drive a pink car or watch Steven Seagal movies. I think they're all equally repulsive but I won't ban them.

There's absolutely no way you could know that though is there. In Dubai. During Ramadan, we regularly went to the Iftar at local hotels or even in the radio station.
Now I know you all think you are not allowed to talk to them, not true. Granted it's a bit awkward but if a male relative is present and it's a certain situation or setting, you can of course converse with Muslim women.
You lot need to get out in the world a but and cease judging other people by your own narrow minded standards.
"I lived in Tower Hamlets". It's actually laughable.

Anyway, another interesting thread shot down by NSC's right wing club. You lot really are getting dull. Bye.
Flounced off again, Nibble style.

No good can come from banning a piece of clothing. Trying to ban the burqa will only create more division.

As much as I dislike the ideology behind it, we're far better off just letting them get on with it and hope it dies out in the future.

Certainly should be banned as it has no place in the modern world and that includes those silly Jewish hats:lolol:

Time to abolish religion throughout the world:clap2:

Saudi women launch Twitter campaign demanding end to male guardianship

The plight of women in Saudi Arabia is no secret matter with women still prohibited from making independent decisions without the supervision and/or permission of their legal male guardians. Now, scores of Saudi women are taking to Twitter to demand the end of the male guardianship system with the #TogetherToEndMaleGuardianship hashtag.

Apropos of nothing, 'Burqa' is an Arabic word but when spelt using the Latin alphabet we usually use a 'q'. Who decided that? You'd think that when we spell words from other languages that don't use the Latin alphabet that we'd make it phonetic - that just sort of makes sense to me but no, we use very odd letters to represent the sounds. And where Burqa is spelt with a 'k' there's usually a silent 'h' after it - burkha. What's the point in having a silent letter in a word that has been specifically borrowed from another alphabet?

See also Beijing, karaoke, czar... this has puzzled and bothered me far more than it should.

I thought czar is the phonetic spelling?
