Tempers had been bubbling in the 15 minutes before the break. Jamie McCunnie
tackled right back Andrew Whing on the touchline and Whing whinged at referee
Moss, rolling his sock down to show his apparent wound like a little boy showing
Mummy his grazed leg after falling from the swings.

What Tooting said.

Plus that was my favourite line from the report.

But it has to be said our players let down the good name of the club and the fans with their celebrations. It was a day for just scoring the goal, getting off the pitch, and celebrating in the coach. Somene should have a word with them. I don't want to read about my club not respecting the death of a young lad.
But, if you mean Baz's dancing, I really don't see that his moonwalk after scoring could be seen by anyone not supporting Hartlepool as being at all disrespectful to their mourning; certainly no more so than, say, our playing the game at all and trying to win it. Or what their bloke did to Dean Cox and then trying to have a pop at the linesman - not exactly the classiest or most dignified way of behaving either.

What about the mocking of kissing the black armband? Utterly tasteless, IMO. Even more so considering that they misconstrued Bas's moonwalk celebration.

As Tooting say, it was a day for scoring the goals, getting out and celebrating on the coach.

Agreed, that is completely shite (if it's true - is it definite that he did that?). He should apologise for that. He's a cocky little so'n'so and that can be a great asset to have on your side, but that's shameful.

wasn't there to see it so I can't comment.

That is all.

Its a shame so many other people can't seem to take that viewpoint.

I would draw the lines at the armband kissing (depending how it was done), and anything distasteful, but I've yet to see any evidence of its existence. The minutes silence was impeccably observed. After that it was a tight, hard and very competitive game that we nicked at the end, and the celebrations (and nothing more than normal celebrations in the circumstances) were hard to resist. In reality I don't think its realistic to ask the players to not celebrate winning the game in those circumstances after 90 minutes of hard (and quite dirty from both sides) match, even if losing was one thing to much for Hartlepool to take.

Well I wasn't there either, but I will comment.

Does anyone here believe, or even SUSPECT for one millisecond, that Elphick (or Bas or anyone else from our team) would have sneered at the memory of a deceased player? Or mocked the opposition's reverence for that same young man??

No?

I thought not.

So why don't these Hartlepool gun-jumpers, all wailing foul, take that thought on board.
So quick to jump on the slightest reason to anger and run amok, no wonder they hung a poor monkey!

In their defence though, they thought the monkey was FRENCH, so you can understand their actions.

Quite right, I can't imagine for one minute our players did anything to deliberatly upset anyone on Saturday. Hartlepool fans are understandably upset about Maidens death, and things get blown out of proportion. Fans these days get on a high horse quite quickly, but at least that is better than turning to violence, hooliganism and vandalism. Let's not dwell any longer on that, we took 3 points, and a great goal (I saw on Telly) from Bas, let's remember the good things from the game, the respect shown to the minutes silence, the behaviour of all the fans on the day.

Remember a couple of weeks back, someone came on here suggesting that the Leeds fans didn't show any respect for Frankie Howards minutes applause. Can't remember who it was, but he was totally wrong, I could see just about all the Leeds fans applauding. Sometimes I think football fans still like to make things out to be so bad when they are not (often when sitting behind a keyboard of course).

As for the Monkey Hanging bit, that was a few years ago, but was it not more recently that a man from Hartlepool pissed on a dying disabled woman in the street ???

It was Phil, after throwing water on her and covering her with shaving foam and getting his mate to video it.

To be perfectly honest, I am not sure how well you can get to know someone after speaking a few times and I am sure his mother isn't going to say anything detrimental to a Brighton fan!

I think you would have to be quite cocky to make your debut at 17(?) and have only played a handful of games before goading the home fans to make some noise (multiple occasions). Showed some real guts and passion.

I am sure I do ;) You need to be assertive, determined, cocky, dedicated etc. to push into the team and establish yourself at such a young age. I don't think anyone knows a player properly, MSN/Facebook or otherwise unless they have spent a prolonged period of time with them. Some people seem to get too 'close' to players for their own good. I would rather be a paying fan without feeling some loyalty to a particular player.

NB This is not meant to be a criticism of you Yorkie. Just a personal opinion of mine! :)
