im sorry if this offends but im confused, did he kiss it it a way to say " have that!" or was it his own personal way of paying respect and a way of saying " thats for you michael maiden,r.i.p",?

I think that it was the former havuing seen ichie Barker doing the same when he equalised. He had also been on TV up there sayuing that if he only scored 1 more goal this season he hoped ity would be against us and given Hartlepool the points. I dont know what his problem with us is.

I do not think that TE has anything to apologise for.

Is that better? It is one of the problems of having big fingers I sometimes hit 2 buttons at the same time and if I do not read it back it comes up like gobblydegook.

I also find it incongruous that the music playing on that You Tube clip is Tom Hark .
they played it before the game maybe there is a link there?

might be maidens song or something?

but do get your point

Sounds like Elphick was a prat and he should sincerely apologise.

I wasn't there but am I right in saying the basic premise was: Young bloke does stupid thing in heat of the moment?

I'm certainly not saying it was right and it's not at all tasteful but I would hazard a guess that every single person in that ground had done something like that when they were young and now look back on it and wonder why on earth they did it.

As has been said here, probably best to apologise and leave them to it - not exactly something we want to be dragging out as it doesn't really look good but we should be big enough to tell them to lay off him, it was a stupid thing to do but I doubt it was particularly calculating.

I wasn't there, haven't seen it, but based on hearsay, internet rumour and a total lack of knowledge of the facts think the outcome should be:

1: Tommy Elphick should never play for the Albion again
2: As a gesture of goodwill, we should give 'Pool the three points
3: Simon Jordan is a twat

That is all

Whilst I normally enjoy your posts, and the thoughtful manner in which you post them, I must take exception to NO.3. This is a huge insults to ALL twats, (many of whom post regularly on this very board...! )

This is all a mountain out of a molehill isn't it.
Who's to say that Tommy kissing the arm band was not his way of acknowledging the memory of Maidens

Wise words cjd, apologies offered to Adrie and his fellow posters for likening them to Mr Tango.

seriously it was a stupid heat of the moment thing by all counts i reckon , the abuse Elphick and Whing got throughout the game from their players and fans was abit OTT (especially as it was THERE players kicking the shit out of them) but it was a stupid thing (if that is exactly what happened of course)

Les has sent me another email as follows...

Pools fan again!!

Just one final post from me to answer some of the points raised.

I'll try to stick to the facts and leave out speculation as there has been far too much of that on your boards and ours.

I'll even go so far as to say some of our fans have made too much out of this, and maybe you think I am doing the same? But anyway......

FACT. Barker scored the penalty, removed his armband and kissed it.
FACT. Baz Savage got your late winner, and in the centre circle, Barker laid down clearly upset at losing the game.
FACT. Elphick approached Barker said something to him, and kissed the armband.

We can all speculate what was said, and whether Elphick did this as a mark of respect or not. From what I can gather, Elphick is a committed 20 year old local lad, just like Maidens was. And would appear to have made a mistake in the heat of the moment.

I dont blame any of your players for trying to win the game, I wouldnt expect you to roll over for us, I actually commented before the match that this was a difficult situation for Brighton to come into, but fair play you did a job on us, and as I said before you deserved the win, and I dont blame any of your players for celebrating, not even Baz Savage with his regular moon-walk.

If one of our players made a similar mistake, I'd be posting that 'we're not normally like that', after all, we're all passionate for our team, and defend them whenever possible, and thats my point, I feel that you fans were excellent. I hadn't realised you had contributed so much to the collection, many thanks for that, I'll make sure thats posted on the board I moderate on.

Finally to answer a few comments above:

1) Yes, we are pissed with Boland, he was stupid, and should have known better.
2) I dont think any of us have an issue with you winning the game, you have your own season to concentrate on
3) Yes, we do play Tom Hark after every game, regardless of the result, I've always thought that was a bit odd, but thats what we do!
4) We didnt have time to re-write the words to Tom Hark to make them more appropriate.
5) Next time you visit Hartlepool, beware of low-flying Ciabatta bread :)

Thanks for reading all of that, I know it went on a bit, but just wanted to try to give a balanced view.

Seriously, good luck with your new stadium, no fans should have the battle for their own ground that you've had.

Right I'm off now, call me what you want, but I'll be reading your replies, and you dont want me trying another epic do you :)

Maybe someone who knows Tommy Elphick might ask exactly what was said so this topic can be concluded!

I think the second email from Les the Pools fan has summed it up and concluded it.

On the train home, a Hartlepool fan came up to us, and was convinced that Elphick slapped Barker on the face.

If that overweight lump of lard had got a proper slap from Tommy, he'd be out of action for a month.

As for kissing bloody armbands - this is professional football - a man's game- and a PROFESSIONAL sport.
Wind-ups are part and parcel.

Can't stand the heat - then piss off and play netball.
