Sorry, this is going to sound a bit soppy but I don’t think it’s said enough: a big shout out today to our dedicated fans who travelled all the way to Bournemouth in really appalling weather. The conditions at Dean Court looked atrocious on my live stream so I am so glad the 1:2 win made it worthwhile for you.

I feel you are not just supporting the team for yourself at away games but giving crucial support on behalf of those of us who, for whatever reason can’t attend away matches. My health in recent years is making it harder and harder to get to matches, so I really appreciate those that make the effort to travel the distances and brave the weather, especially in conditions like today.

I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to say a big thank you, so …

Yes, that was the point really - I wonder how many decided not to go because of Storm Bert and hazardous driving conditions.

I realise I’m setting myself up for being trolled/mocked or whatever but just speaking from the heart as someone that can no longer travel to away games and feels genuinely appreciative of those that do in weather like we had yesterday.

If some people don’t have the grace to accept a word of appreciation, that’s up to them

That it was only available to a relatively small number of people and would still have sold out if 5 times as many tickets had been available.

Nothing wrong with the sentiment at all but it would have made more sense re the Newcastle trip a few weeks ago, rather than a local game.

Not to me thanks.

It wasn’t about the distance travelled but driving in really shitty weather conditions (and it’s still a 4hr round trip from Brighton, some travelling much further afield than that) and enduring the weather at Dean Court.

A few weeks ago, there weren’t 70 mile gusts, gale force winds, ice and driving rain.

It was also a general vote of gratitude to all those who travel to away games (wherever they are) and give the team vital support on behalf of us that are not able to attend away matches for whatever reason.

If you don’t feel gratitude to away fans for their commitment because of your love of the squad that we all know need and appreciate the 12th man, then that’s fine.

Ignoring the massive straw man point at the end, I just don’t think rain would ever put me off going to an away game I had a ticket for.

Snow is different. If I had a ticket for Newcastle away and saw on the news that snow was causing havoc in the north-east I’d think twice about driving, for sure. I used to live in the north and well remember the near-annual chaos on the roads. But rain in Bournemouth? Come off it.

Edited to add: if there are extraordinarily bad conditions down there at the moment, fair enough. I’m in Home Kong at the moment where it’s a balmy 23 degrees C.
