I drove to Hartlepool and back the same day- and missed the first five minutes- and had to pick up my mate in Sheffield.

And before you come back with a part timer's riposte... I once traveled to Newcastle on a Friday night only for the match to be postponed the following day.

nah. Real loyalty would be travelling all the way to Newcastle already knowing that the game had been postponed. Lightweight.

Thankyou for the thanks, but to be honest it wasn't as bad at the ground as I expected. I was front row and the rain seemed to stop at KO with just the odd light shower. Anyone 3 rows back or more probably didn't get wet at all. There was little wind and not cold. But the walk to and from the ground for most was bad. 3 coppers came in a few minutes before KO, they were drenched through.

Ignoring the massive straw man point at the end, I just don’t think rain would ever put me off going to an away game I had a ticket for.

Snow is different. If I had a ticket for Newcastle away and saw on the news that snow was causing havoc in the north-east I’d think twice about driving, for sure. I used to live in the north and well remember the near-annual chaos on the roads. But rain in Bournemouth? Come off it.

Edited to add: if there are extraordinarily bad conditions down there at the moment, fair enough. I’m in Home Kong at the moment where it’s a balmy 23 degrees C.

This. Totally soaked walking back to Bournemouth station but the wind wasn't as bad as i feared. Replacement bus going was terrible but not so bad coming back.
I appreciate the sentiment and if i'm honest feel very lucky and privileged to watch us at the moment, as i was watching us in Europe. The oldies among us have seen us in the bottom division losing to terrible teams playing football in a way that seems inconceivable now. When i'm in the ground now, singing the loudest i can, it's partly so those listening at home anywhere in the world, know they're represented. UTA

Sorry, this is going to sound a bit soppy but I don’t think it’s said enough: a big shout out today to our dedicated fans who travelled all the way to Bournemouth in really appalling weather. The conditions at Dean Court looked atrocious on my live stream so I am so glad the 1:2 win made it worthwhile for you.

I feel you are not just supporting the team for yourself at away games but giving crucial support on behalf of those of us who, for whatever reason can’t attend away matches. My health in recent years is making it harder and harder to get to matches, so I really appreciate those that make the effort to travel the distances and brave the weather, especially in conditions like today.

I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to say a big thank you, so …

Appreciate that Zeberdi. This grumpy old git was certainly relieved to get back to Haywards Heath safely. Also a big thank you to the youngsters around me who could see I was in some discomfort and made sure I was OK.

This is the thing, it's okay checking that it's not too bad before setting off but largely the winds hadn't got as bad as they would by mid-morning. There's no way of planning for what could occur after the match.
Why is Bournemouth never good by public transport. I always drive because of the potential for late cancellations or engineering works. But yesterday could have been a real struggle for some getting home
