Is having a succession of batflids as opening partner now taking its toll on Cook?

Things might have turned out very different had they stuck with Compton and Pietersen not been such a tw*t, the opening debacle since Strauss's retirement could have been avoided.

For a method of getting out that is mainly considered a bit unlucky, Cook seems to manage it an awful lot.

This. For someone who's best shot is often the leave, why does he almost always feel the need to have a waft at one down the leg side?

He's in good company there, I recall David Gower being a lover of the leg-side waft.

Don't get anyone moaning about Compton. He's EXACTLY what we need at number 3.

As he is showing now, after he gets in he can match anyone else for speed of rub scoring. I think you're correct, just what we need even if he is a bit of a slow starter.

I think most of the frustration comes from the fact that we often lose wickets early, and as such people are eager for us to put on runs so we aren't 20-2, 18-1 etc. for so long. He then comes in and makes runs slowly and people are still nervy therefore take it out on him rather than realise he's steadying the ship

Crikey... Taylor nearly killed Bavuma at short leg--- wild slashing cut shot... let go of the bat and dragged it round, flying off to midwicket.

Taylor gone to Morkel

91-4

Good catch at short leg by a stretching Bavuma... tipped it up and caught the rebound.

England struggling against pace and bounce.

.....sake.

We've not looked comfortable at any point in the innings, neither attacking the bowlers, nor steadying the ship. We just look like we're batting without any mental fortitude. Really poor, all 4 wickets have been poor shots that is down to the batsmen mentality rather than an out and out jaffa delivery.
