I'd certainly have been very happy if we'd managed to keep Colwill after his loan spell (or Tomori for that matter!) Obviously though, if that had resulted in JPVH heading for the exit to get game time, that wouldn't have been such a good deal.

I think there's a good defender in there. The problem Chelsea fans made is that they heard he had a good season with us so assumed he was going to come back to them and take the Premier League by storm. After giving us all that money for Potter, Cinderella etc, they viewed it as a rare chance to get one over on us by taking back their player and refusing to let us buy him. He was "generational", they said. "A Rolls Royce of a defender".

The reality was, he had a very decent season for us as a 19yr old, in a mostly winning team, with experienced players alongside him, but he wasn't faultless. The difference is however, when playing for us, he could make the odd mistake and get away with it. Because they Chelsea then signed him to a lucrative new deal amid great fanfare, the expectations went through the roof, and as soon as it turned out he wasn't in fact the complete product, the reincarnation of Virgil Van Dijk, they've been on his case and calling him shit.

Put him in a decent defence with a manager who takes the time to build his confidence and encourage him to embrace the odd failure as a learning point rather than a disaster and I'm sure he'll flourish again. Hopefully not at Chelsea though.

Yes, I'd have him back, despite his weakness for the third goal last night.
Very much this. I would sign him. When I look at a player CV the words 'Chelsea' would not be used as a period of their career that assesses their capabilities.

The only reason why a young player would want to sign for Chelsea is £££ and nothing to do about making the most of their career. Absolute car crash club for the amount they spend.

Caicedo should be having a lovely old time with Mac Allister, winning the Premier League and playing in the Champions League, but he chose the money.

He had a promising season with us but he wasn't a guaranteed starter. Webbo kept him out a lot. People seem to forget that.

He only played 17 games.

He's good and he had the right attitude then. I'm just not fully sold on him being better than someone like JPVH. But I guess we always overrate English players*

*Except hinsh :)
He's miles behind JP

Chelsea fans looking to get rid.

Would LOVE it if TB got him back for a discount price.
I’m really not sure any more, personally. Was well off it on Friday night, and having made a lot of money and played for a “top” club I wonder if his heart would be in coming and fighting for a place back at little Brighton. Certainly wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter on arrival.

I’d be concerned with his attitude. His body language Friday night was atrocious, and was shocking for the third goal which was completely avoidable.

I think he'd be thriving and would be a much better player now if he'd joined us. As per most of the post-match talk (Carlton Cole made some decent observations on Talksport after the game actually), they're a team full of young players that need guidance, average players with big egos and no leaders. Our young players have Welbeck, Veltman, Webster, Steele, Milner and Dunk to look up to, even the younger players like JP have taken up a leadership role under their guidance. Who do Chelsea have? Racist whinging rat Enzo Fernandez and pulled pork hamstring James? Their dressing room must be a nightmare to manage.

Would still take him back. Chelsea may even be tempted to do a deal for PSR reasons. Whether he would take a pay cut or if bigger clubs wouldn't be sniffing around is another matter.

He wanted to come here. Chelsea were forced to offer him the lucrative contract they’d been holding back on because they weren’t quite sure.

He was linked with many other clubs apart from us, I just think he hates Chelsea. I absolutely believe that he’d thrive here.

He's just at the wrong club. He should never have stayed at Chelsea. If I remember the sequence of events correctly, he would have joined us permanently, but Chelsea didn't want to let him go.

For the youngest squad in the Premier League, I don't think Chelsea are mostly very good at nurturing their young players, unlike us.

I think Colwill would come back in a heart beat - the only obstacle would be his wages.

He's still only 21 and he's quality for his age. Any issues he's having at Chelsea could be overcome here at BHAFC.

Wouldn't want him now. He's been ruined. His pathetic attempt at getting a free kick instead of playing and getting back into position meant their 3rd was virtually all on him. Minteh cutting into the space he should have been back to if he hadn't been 20 yards away pleading to the lino because wellbeck breathed on him. 34 year old Welbz by comparison playing the final killer ball just a few feet away from the action.

The perfect illustration of a player being corrupted by a massive deal and playing for a club who's central identity is gauche entitlement.

Had a poor game, yes. Hasn't had a brilliant time at Chelsea at all, but I put that down to them and the environment they foster. He'd be twice the player if he had stayed with us.
Quite what twice is though, remains up for debate.

Well, for one thing he would be 12’ 4”.

I’d have absolutely lost my head if a Brighton player had done what Colwill did in the build up to our third goal. Easily shrugged off the ball, sits there complaining for way too long whilst we attack and then saunters back in to position with all the urgency of a Paul Pogba penalty run-up.

I agree, but I'm not sure he would have done that if playing for us. It seems that when playing for a big club, players get used to the idea that if they sit on the floor and complain, they'll get the free-kick. It worked for Gusto.
