So, at a minimum we need to reduce our 'squad' i.e. non-U21 players by 3 based upon our current squad.

Yes. We currently have 28 contracted players in the first team squad - as well as a bunch of u21s…- and we can only name 25.
But still plenty of flex in terms of loans allowed, ongoing sales negotiations and even several incoming . Loads of outs and some ins yet…

On the subject of the "gulf", I have come round to thinking that the idea of a European Super League is not such a bad idea.
Of course, the PL would lose a lot of glamour (and money!) with MU/MC/Liv./Spurs/Ar/Chel gone, but you'd get a much more even and exciting playing-field, with more chance of promoted clubs establishing themselves, and a better spread of competition.
To exaggerate slightly, what we have now - season after season - is about seven clubs playing for the top-six, and 13 fighting to avoid relegation!

Completely agree with this. The problem is they want to play in both…

Quite a few of the list above won't be going to Portugal.

Abdallah Sima off to Angers apparantly - bit disappointed - I'd like to have see him have another season on loan in the UK (without injury this time). A good goal-scoring season in the Championship to rub it in the nose of the miserable Stoke fans who moaned about him (and about Ostigard).

Sima, Østigård and Richards deals and announcements all looking very imminent.

Khadra lots of interest.

Just as the first team squad arrive in Portugal Connolly posts a video of himself on a boat in Venice. [emoji1309]

Yeah if they're only bringing a (somewhat) limited amount of players to Portugal, I think we can be pretty certain that Connolly isn't going there. As things stand he is very far from getting any game time in the first team. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

My guess is that he’ll soon be playing alongside ex-team mates Niki Mäenpää and Aleš Matějů.

I'm assuming it will only involve those who featured in Saturday's game vs USG + some first team regulars like Trossard, Caicedo, Sarmiento. There's no point letting 50+ players think they may be involved this season when we are planning for them to have loans arranged

It will be interesting to work out who has made it on the plane and who hasn't

Internationals like Trossard, Mac, Sanchez, Caicedo and Sarmiento - who didn’t play v USG - are involved. They’ve been featured on the club social feeds getting off the plane etc.

Only just noticed Maenpaa is what looks like starting keeper there, good for him, I always rated him quite highly as second choice glad to see he's made a decent career there.

There are a lot worse places to end up. The phrase “yeah but can he do it on a cold Tuesday night in Venice?” has a lot more appeal to it.

I'd like to think there was an Ant & Dec style meeting with all the players whilst Graham and Tony shouting out names and presenting plane tickets with the phrase "Insert Player's name, You've got a seat on the plane"
