Indeed.

Clarke, Scherpen and Andone are almost certainly going somewhere.

Then there has to be a chance - although equally not - of loans for 27-29 : Kozlowski, Ferguson, van Hecke.

And then there is the Maupay question - the Italian deal may not be happening but it seems a move is not totally out of the question.

I believe that players in the U23 game against Palace tonight might well find themselves on loan soon:

Offiah
Clarke
Enciso
Kozlowski
Ferguson

One question. Does the limit on Non-HGP players only apply to the senior players, or would our U21s be included in the calculation also?

Right there are now 22 over21s listed there. Of those, we can probably expect two or three to go -- Clarke (or, less likely, Van Hecke), Andone and Maupay. Moder is injured until the new year. That'd leave 18 over21s. There are five u21s there, with Kozlowski potentially another. That's looking like 23/24 fit players. If that's the case, we probably need two incoming. Estupinan and one more attacking player?

U21s are excluded when counting HGP numbers.

Thanks, so our Non-HGP players are:

1. Veltman (2023 + option)
2. van Hecke (2023)
3. Mwepu (2025)
4. Moder (2025)
5. Groß (2024)
6. Mac Allister (2023)
7. Trossard (2023 + option)
8. Mitoma (2025)
9. Maupay (2023)
10. Undav (2026)
11. Andone (2023)

Which matches the number quoted in the Athletic article.

We're doing pretty well compared to many other EPL teams.

I wouldn't be so sure, obviously Estupinan looks like he's signing and we've mentioned we are looking for a backup to Welbeck but I don't think the club are going to be too annoyed if that backup doesn't happen in this window.

We only named a 20 man squad after the January window closed last season, it was effectively a 19 man squad because it included Billy Arce who we released about a month later. Even if we do move on Maupay, Andone and one of Clarke or JPvH we will still have roughly similar numbers, which is where the club have said they want to be squad size wise.

From the U21's who don't need to be named we've got Caicedo who will be a starter, Colwill and Sarmiento who will regularly be part of the PL match day squad with Enciso and Ferguson knocking on the door, and that's still not counting Kozlowski who could also find himself given a chance if his injury prevents a loan move.

So what do we reckon still to do?
A few outs:
- Maupay probably
- Clarke (loan or perm)
- Andone (please someone take him)
- loan for Koslowski maybe?

In:
- the elusive fast striker - the ‘second Welbeck’ per Potter’s interview seemed to suggest this might be an area we’re looking at. As close as Potter will ever come to saying he needs a player. (Would love Iheanacho personally).

- I wonder if we’re in for a DM. If Caicedo gets injured we’re a bit screwed as none of the other options have his athleticism. And Potter does like to play a lot of CMs in some games. It does seem we’ve genuinely looked at a few, which suggests that’s a position we’re looking at. Liked the look of Camara but that ship has sailed.

Yes. I think we need two more in as you describe and I think we’re going to get them.

I also think you are right on the departure list too but we might also see Ferguson and Enciso go out on loan (as well as some more U23s), especially if that elusive striker is purchased.

A new striker and a defensive mid and we'd really be in business this season! Quality and options all over the pitch.

I'd also like to see us bring in an experienced keeper for a year as Sanchez back up, dont really fancy Steele playing Prem games if we had injuries/suspensions, but that might be unlikely.

Colwill and Estupinan weren't deals we were planning on doing this summer and only happened as a result of Cucurella's departure.

There must have been other deals planned which are still ticking along - certainly a midfielder, and apparently a Welbeck clone.

I actually think we are OK now for next season, even if Maupay goes.

But that is just an "OK". Let's aim for better.

Naylor article this morning arguing that
Clarke, Andone, and Koslowski are the three remaining high profile exits/loans this summer. (I'm sure there also be other non first team squad loans - several of last years u23 squad are likely to be headed to the EFL) - assuming that Maupay exit is now a given with what looks like Fulham leading the race there.

Naylor reckons "more outs than ins" with 4 outs suggested - Maupay, Andone, Clarke and Kozlowski.

So that means 0-3 incoming.

I am convinced Cifuentes will join - and he will be the advanced Caicedo replacement who may leave after the World Cup.

We also may get a Welbeck clone.

I think there could be 3 more also depending on the squad situation at the end of next week. Maupay sale and Enciso plus Ferguson loan. If we’ve not replaced Maupay the teens will stay though.

A bit sad about Clarke - couldn't have done much more than POTS in 2 out of 3 seasons in the Championship. I don't know how much we got in loan fees for him - or how much of his wages Derby and WBA paid - but I don't think many Championship clubs can afford to match or better the £3M we paid for him.

Hope we find a good home for him.

I think we are now comfortable with our squad and don't need to sign anymore players. I think our most likely signings in order will be a DM(add to numbers), ST(competition) & LB (future prospect)
