Disagree strongly that any struggles we've had this season is connected to our finishing.

Normally we're very bad in that area - even in the season we finished 6th we should according to xG have scored another dozen goals. Thats the standard for us: 10-12 goals below xG. This season that number so far is 2 rather than 12.
Overall xG doesn’t paint the whole picture though - the xG of most of our main goal scoring players has gone down - Mitoma and Rutter are the only ones whose xG has improved.

But stats aside, because this is a discussion for another thread not this one - Hürzeler himself has said on several occasion , we have not converted the chances we should have and when I watch Encisco taking 8 attempts on goal but failing to get them on target, or Mitoma missing walk ins, Pedro launching shots way over the cross bar, then that making the difference between a draw or win, then the finishing matters.

I’m not saying our problems up front is the only reason we are not winning games our defence has been shocking at times too but with Ferguson and Danny out, we need Adingra, Enciso and Pedro performing very well (at the moment they are not consistent at all) and very possibly another frontman if we want to finish the season above mid table. (IMHO!)

Well if we indeed let the xG have another thread (I was going to a 'numbers' thread soon enough anyway) and stick to transfers here:

I would be very surprised to see us sign a striker this transfer window. In the squad right now we have Welbeck, Ferguson, Enciso, Georginio and Joao Pedro with plenty of experience from playing up front (even though some of them are more of no 10s). Bit like last year we have one of the biggest squads in the league and bit like last year (and any other year), we're not going to destroy the wage structure of the club just because some players are injured. So in case three out of the players I mentioned are still around in a month, I don't see us adding more.

A little bit different in the defensive areas where not as much investment has been made and where a significant rebuild is inevitable next summer, could see us start making moves for that already now in January. First team wingers, 10s or strikers not so much. Imo.

Sorry but can we please keep this thread just for updates/transfer news/rumours?

There’s plenty of threads where we make long and detailed posts about our general views on the squad and do - so please let‘s not clutter up this one.

Further to the Ferguson saga, the Hammers are saying they are apparently better placed to purchase Ferguson as they claim any loan deal for Fergie would come with and obligation to buy - just smoke but adds some credence to the idea we would be willing to let Ferguson finish his season at another Premier league club when he recovers from injury.

But conversely a loan deal killer for the Hammers

Please stop trying to moderate from the back seat - you are not some kind of discussion arbiter.

This is a thread for transfer updates

It is perfectly reasonable to ask as the thread starter if we can please try and stay focussed on transfer updates and not descend into long arguments/discussions about Hürzeler or the squad in general.

No need for your heavy handed intervention here or for Moderation of my comments..

Please stop trying to tell others what and how they may or may not post - like it or not, that is not your job.

NSC currently has 391,790 threads.

My guess is that about four or five of those stayed on topic throughout.

Difficult not to when you state we must be after a finisher based on your opinion of the side missing chances. Reasonable for another poster to challenge that I would have thought?

I asked about 3 times if we could please merge this with the other thread where the transfer news is being posted.

Surely if people aren’t interested in this thread which was specifically for the updates then why not merge it instead of derailing it?

Edit
BTW - my comment was applying to both myself and HS as a suggestion/request as we were both getting into an in depth discussion NOT me telling other people how to post.

But people are interested in this thread. Just not in the way you wanted them to be. 🤷

Besides, if a thread is derailed, it’s better it’s the newer, shorter one than the longer, more established one.

I did not say we “must be after a finisher”

Interested in trolling it/taking the piss/derailing it … not in posting updates of transfers?

If I have inadvertently trodden on someone’s toes for starting a transfer thread, then I am truly sorry, my bad but just merge them for heaven’s sake as I have asked several times - this is ridiculous.😳

Bold Seagull has just made an on-topic post.

There’s life in this thread yet.

Unlikely... but in the case its true, I would guess we might not turn down £37m for him.

Think unfortunately he is injured or we (with Welbeck injured) would have had a natural CF on the bench against Villa and Brentford . Your theory would be preferable though!
I'm pretty confident we would turn down £37 million for Goodnight. Unless there is a release clause, as with Ali Mac, I doubt Tony even picks up the phone for less than £50m. If Spurs really want him now, £60m is the price. Remember, City offered £30m for Cuntcurella and Tony got £62m from Todd.
