Plenty do agree... it looked like intent to me as well otherwise he would have labourdly swung his arm back. we all have opinions and going by the letter of the law, it looked off. This is what is crap about football, rules should not be about opinions or somebody's interpretation of the rule.
And plenty don’t I referred to your comment that it was only one person

But there was NO actual intent to smack the player in the face. It's not like he tried to and missed.
Which is the major point that so many people are over looking. It was a just a rather silly and dangerous gesture to the referee. Had he actually really attempted to hit the player and missed he should have got a red all day long. The defence of if he missed no red is ridiculous as it would suggest throwing punches is fine just as long as you miss.

What it does open a debate about is whether a such a violent gesture should be subject to some form of sanction.

Aye……and from what I see he was looking at the referee when he did it …as you say take player aside and also mention the diving ….still what do I know apparently I’m blind 🤔

If we had any other available striker, a ban would be largely irrelevant - as he’d be nowhere near the team anyway. He was absolutely terrible on Friday.

Nonsense. Pedro actually looked right at him before making the move, he wasn't just swinging an elbow blindly in the 'expectation' that the player would be on the end of it. If he had wanted to elbow him in the face he would have done. He clearly looked, and made sure his elbow was nowhere near him. Watch it fully - at 0.18.

 Surely it's abundantly clear that JP was looking at the referee and the action was a (rather exaggerated) "he's pulling me back, ref"...?

The ref clearly understood this, by not taking any action at all against JP despite being very close and with a good view, and agreed with him by booking the Brentford player.

VAR reviewed the footage and saw no reason to suggest overturning that decision.

Han Solo is being a bellend.

To be honest, I thought his "throat cutting" gesture after scoring the fourth, against Palace last season, was far more questionable and could easily have landed him in trouble...

I thought the Brentford player went down because he was acting as though he'd been elbowed. Contact wasn't made despite the action of Pedro but the player was booked for the shirt pull anyway.
I think it was another Brentford player who actually went down, not the one who had been pulling Pedro back. 90% sure anyway.

As I often read on here about BHA have a “no dickhead policy” so how does making “ throat cutting” gestures and deliberately trying to cause harm to an opponent meet the said policy.

Let’s make no bones about this that would have caused a broken jaw if not worse and by not getting a red it sets a president.

I wish Pedro had connected and broken his face, to be honest. A cynical pull back like that deserves it. Football has gone soft.

The Brentford player (Yarmolyek) didn't go down.

In fact, he didn't even flinch - as if he wasn't even aware of Joao Pedro's elbow - giving some credence to the theory that he wasn't trying to catch him, and there was a fair distance between them.

(he's still incredibly stupid, and very lucky, regardless)

Pervis was absolutely a red card. I don’t think I saw a single pundit who didn’t think it was a red. We definitely dodged one there.

Pedro - never a red, he didn’t even connect. So no luck there.

Joao Pedro should’ve got a red card, no way should he be given the benefit of the doubt whatever his intentions. Bad for the game.

Personally I think it was an extremely childish reaction … the sort of thing we all did in the playground in similar situations when we were kids… he has lashed out, well aware that he is not going to connect- the playground statement would go something like, “You wanna watch out, I could’ve had you then!”

I can’t imagine anyone having their arm up at shoulder height to indicate that someone was pulling their shirt, it’s just a completely unnatural position to try and get that message across.
