tarring our owner with the mendacious brush of 'moneyman'

Tony Bloom is obviously not involved in the Albion to make money. But, then again, he's not employing execs on £1.5m+ salaries for the LOLs.

Paul Barber's job is literally to squeeze what he can from supporters to help fund Tony's dream, whilst keeping fans onside.

Starting to wonder how much I'm expected to pay to fund this dream...

OK. Very well put.

Don't be silly. That's more stupid than it is rude, but it really is stupid. You are just revealing what looks like a peevish inverted snobbery, sneering at what you imagine to be my lofty perch and lack of concern for those who are hard up. And I can assure you that I'm very much not 'alright', Jack.

I'll run through the key bits one more time.....

1. The games that are being aired for £15 a pop are games that would not have been aired on TV at all. Buying them is no different in substance from using your free will and money to pay to view via Sky or BT. Numerous people have pointed this out.
2. I don't recall you attacking me previously for commenting on a Brighton game I watched on BT (and paid for). What's the difference? I paid extra to watch it. Sky and BT aren't free, you know. ???
3. If you have a season ticket you'll get your refund. I agree that reimbursement is too slow but, FFS man, that doesn't justify all the crap you threw at me above! Your attack on me seems entirely focused on my willingness to pay £15 to watch a bit of footy which seems to give you the right to claim that I'm gloating about the thill of paying twice and not caring. Seriously? What sort of person do you think I am? Lord Snooty? Dom Cummings? Boris Johnson?
4. I am sorry if there are people on NSC, season ticket holders, who can't afford to pay one off charges of £15 a game to watch the extra televised games. I have said so previously, although I do wonder exactly how many people are in your special category of having forked out for a 2020-21 season ticket (despite having ample time to not do so after Covid arrived - decisions, decisions) and consequently this single spend has pushed them into a corner where they cannot afford to pay £15 to watch an extra game on TV (which is a little luxury, in fact, not a bloody human right). Were there no Covid and were they still able to attend games they would doubtless pay more than £15 in travel. My match day cost me a fortune and the way I see it I am saving a fortune by paying £15 and not having to travel to home games. Suits me for now. Always look on the bright side, etc. Glass half full. Better than being a miserable sod. As for away games, even those claiming they walk or cycle to the Amex are avoiding the expensive travel they would have paid due to there being no opportunity to travel away to games. And now they can watch some of them on telly for £15 a pop. Winner. So if you want to make this about money, FFS do your sums first. Most of those refusing to pay £15 are doing so on principle as far as I can see from posts. Protesting against the evil moneyman, Tony Bloom  I'm sure there are masses of people who can't afford the £15, but my guess is most won't have a BHA season ticket (which is, in my view, a luxury item - it certainly is to me), and most won't be tapping away on their expensive computer or phone on the internet on NSC during daytime - they'll be at work, or looking for work. Rather a lot of jonny come lately keyboard faux socialists onine here right now, venting about a load of hypotheticals that probably don't affect themselves, not least the moneyman trope, and digging out people like me who still back the club to make the best choices even when the options are not great. That's my fundamental position - I trust in Tony Bloom. You are most welcome to move your trust elsewhere if it makes you feel better .

I’m saving at least £200/mth (petrol, grub, away tickets etc) all the time we can’t attend matches (and that’s without my ST refund) so I’ll probably wear the 14.95 to watch a game (likely with at least 2-3 other STHs).

I guess in simple terms, for the foreseeable future each game is going to cost me £14.95 in total instead of £60+ (home) or £100+ (away) as I’m funding two STs

I don't have much time or inclination to watch many matches as a neutral, so I don't usually subscribe to Sky Sports. Just can't justify it. (I do, however, have Amazon Prime.)

But I signed up to Sky Sports (£18/month) and BT Sports (£25) so I can watch ALL Albion matches during the Covid-era - or so I thought.

I flatly refuse to pay £14.95 PPV.

And it's not worth paying for Sky/BT for just a couple of Albion matches a month (neutral matches are even less appealing with no crowds), so I'm almost certainly going to cancel my subscriptions.

Great work, Premier League.

Exactly, this has been a damaging move by the Premier League and not just for bad PR. Their greed has gone a step too far this time, and like everyone, I’m sad our club didn’t put its foot down and stand up for the fans as Leicester did.

Will be interesting to see how they respond to the overwhelming negative feedback.

Harry. just because you can't empathise with others feelings on this, and are making out that fans are sticking the boot in, when they aren't don't lump everyone in the same category.
In other words get over yourself.

mmmm.....

I think I have been quite precise about who and what I'm unhappy with and am very certainly not lumping everyone together. The opposite, in fact (and at tedious length).
Wozza just made a very pertinent point; much more nuanced than the posts that have annoyed me, even if I don't really share his inference (yet).

All of this came from me saying that of course I will pay £15 for games I wouldn't odinarily have been able to view on TV (and then getting dug out for saying so with, frankly, a load of impertinent comments about me as a person from one or two people, with others then commenting on the comments without reading their provenance). Anyway, I think it's best I leave this thread alone now, points made, understood by some, will never be understood by others so it seems

The more money they get in due to ppv the more likely it is that football will go the way of boxing and eventually every other sport that is televised. You will pay your monthly subscription to sky or bt and will then be expected to pay for every event you want to watch. NOW THAT IS WHAT YOU CALL PAYING TWICE. Believe me when I say this is only the start.

It was, and an unwise way to phrase it. It has got a lot of fans backs up.

Unusual misstep by PB.

As all Season ticket holders have already paid for the first half of the season, it does feel odd that he should think anyone is trying to get something for nothing.

Good point.......I suspect Sky/BT are DELIGHTED that a PPV option is going to be put in place - will be nothing to stop this continuing post-Covid (and many will be delighted to be able to watch games they otherwise couldn't) but it's only a short step from that to fewer and fewer games being included in the normal package and more going to PPV instead..........

I guess he was thinking in terms of how he's already promised that those payments - if not used - will be refunded or credited to next season.

I find it hard to believe that season ticket holders can’t afford £15 ???

I would hazard a guess that £15 is a lot less than the average spend of a season ticket holder on match day ???

Good post, all that will be available on Sky/BT with the normal subscription will be news, repeats of games and bollocks chat shows about football. It really will destroy itself.

It's not about affording it - it is about fair value. This is not

Which will be really bad for those who travel away as the majority of games will be at times when you either can't attend or get back by train/in a reasonable time from

I am a non STD who normally goes to about 2-3 away games each season, so appreciate I’m pretty much a non entity in this debate. However just for the record, I would happily pay £5 to watch every Brighton game in a season, so about £200. If the price for many matches is £15 per game, with the occasional £9.95 game on NowTV, a full season could cost me about £500, which I’m not going to pay. Therefore I have to pick which games to watch and which to listen to on SeagullsTV. I will not be watching WBA, although if it was cheaper I would. Couldn’t there be a season ticket PPV for all Brighton games in a season for about £200? I think that would feel like good value and something I would certainly consider doing as a single purchase.

It is entirely up to people how they spend their money. Some people won't do it on principle, some won't because of the time of day, some won't because they think it is too expensive - and that is entirely their decision - and some straight up can't afford it.

Time will tell but 80% of people on here saying they won't pay it should be a little bit of an alarm bell for the TV companies (listening to Price of Football earlier the clubs were given a fait accompli on how much it cost).

That's a tricky one....what to compare it with ??

Boxing PPV ? (£20-24)
Cinema ticket (£10-15)
Match ticket (£25-£50)
Downloaded Sky movie (£5)

How long before the pricing gets adjusted if this becomes the norm ?

Liverpool v Man U - £50
Burnley v West Brom - 30p

????

How about - a season ticket for every premier league game in the US, Canada, Germany or Italy being somewhere between £60-£100 per season, for *EVERY* game live.

Or how about the vast majority of EFL clubs allowing their season ticket holders to watch every home game for free on iFollow.

Or how about what the NBA , NFL or NHL offer to fans to stream *EVERY* game for a season between £120-£180 per season.

£15 per match is way too expensive when you take the above into account. They are relying on people being desperate to watch football or their teams.
