How long from earthquake and the tidal wave hitting Sri Lanka?

A Sussex tourist in Sri Lanka said that the first Tsunami Wave hit the hotel at 9:40 (which I assume is local time). The bigger one appeared to be the second one.

The Delhi time (about the same as Sri lanka) of the earthquake is 6:30 approx, so it looks like the tidal wave took just over three hours to reach Sri Lanka. Not much time for a warning.

The news reports were not very clear about the times.

Me hopes Kalimantan Gull will be OK, cos I don't think the tidal waves will have hit southern Borneo. But he might have been on holiday I suppose. Hope you're ok KG.

One of my friends has lost contact with a mate of his out in Sri Lanka. Terrible terrible stuff :nono:

It's simply horrific. The total devestation and loss of life is almost beyond imagination.

I had a look at my photo album of my trip to Thailand a couple of years back and stopped at the one of the beach hut I stayed in right by the sea. It's not hard to see why so many have been killed.

I think it's fair to say that certain areas will probably never recover from this disaster.

All so very sad :nono:

One of my Uni housemates last year was on holiday there. Thankfully she's safe. She had us all worried though. Only got an email today. She's staying out there for another week..

As far as I know he had no plans to be out in Thailand at the moment. Hope not anyway - I might try PM'ing him actually.

It's ok. As someone pointed out to me he posted on here on 29th December.
