Terrible news as earthquakes and tidal waves devastate several asian countries. Brings things into perspective doesn't it.:(

A tragedy of immense proportion. My heart goes out to the relatives and friends of all of those who lost their lives. It makes you realise that mother nature owns this planet and that there are some things that we can't influence or stop however much we might want to.

:( :( :(

That is bad at any time of year. I can only imagine how quickly happiness turned to sadness for those poor people.

I wouldn't want to be on the Maldives. Their highest point is about 3 feet above sea level.

Estimates of 11,000 dead now. I can't recall any other natural disaster causing as much death and destruction on this kind of scale, not in recent times anyway.

This is terrible news, luckily I contacted my sister this morning who was in Thailand and she was up in the mountains.

Only confirmed deaths of Brits was a female from Thailand on BBC plus another reported.

Actually, 11,000 is nothing compared to some recent events, although it is still, of course, absolutely tragic. In China in 1976, an earthquake killed approximately 240,000 people. Didn't get a huge amount of coverage in the West, which was probably more concerned about some soap opera scandal or something involving Tory politicians.

I'm just glad we came back from there 3 weeks ago. One of the hotels we stayed at has been completely demolished. :( :nono:
I've seen a photo of one of the taxi boats in the hotel we stayed at on Male.

Very very sad news.
