don't take a stroll on Dukes Mound or the Level
don't go on the Pier
don't use the A23 on Bank Holidays
don't stop for charity workers
keep walking and don't stare when they see a local nutter
don't walk in the cycle lanes on the seafront
know where Sting chained his bike, and where Lesley Ash was ......

do, until recently, ignore car restrictions in the sure knowledge that nobody in authority cares.

I wonder if any incomers at first think that London Road Station is on London Road, and are desperately trying to find it inbetween a pound land and the most aptly named Worlds End pub.

The curious thing is that London Road Station is the station for Preston Park and Preston Park Station is the station for London Road.

How did that happen?

don't use the A23 on Bank Holidays

Oh I beg to differ. We love using the A23 on Bank Holidays. Going north in the morning and south in the evening laughing at everyone stuck in the traffic
:D

.....

1) He will have Dockerills stamped on his doorkey.
2) He may have be poor but have an Amex card.
3) He will instantly find Quadrophenia alley.
4) He won't hesitate at the 7 dials.
5) He will be able to direct you to Snakey Hill.
6) He will know to stay indoors when the bike ride is on.
7) He will know not to visit Moulscoomb , Whitehawk or The Knoll after dark.
8) He will refer to the Place Pier.
9) He will know not to dine in Preston Street.
10) He will know the difference between The Steine and The Steyne.

Anyone else is a fraud.

Will refer to Withdean Stadium rather than The Withdean

What about the large number of Brightonians who live there? I would have thought that a better guide to a true Brightonian is that he lives in Moulsecoomb, Whitehawk, The Knoll, Hollingdean, Coldean or Patcham.

Easy way to spot the recent incomers is:

a) They jog at weekends - helps convince them they've bought into a LIFESTYLE
b) Their front gardens are pebbled over, and have shells, lobster-pots and other artefacts non-native to Fiveways scattered around, to convince their London friends, that, yes, they do actually live at the seaside
c) They fill up every available seat in every mediocre chainstore coffe-shop that springs up - tho has to be said the new one in London Road might take a little while to reach critical mass

:lolol:Quality!!!!:lolol:

I would and do call the pier "Palace Pier", and do call Brighton, "Brigh'on!"

1. They can't afford to live here
2. Their kids buggies have 4 wheels not 3
3. They remember when Brighton & Hove buses were green and called Southdown.
4. Look at any new housing developments, raise their eyes and say to themselves, "More posh flats for Londoners".
5. Know where the boundary between Brighton & Hove is.
6. Has had some sort of experience on Old Shoreham Road
7. Understands that Preston Circus isn't actually a Circus and is nowhere near Preston.
8. Thinks the Brighton Festival is a load of arty bollox
9. Knows not to turn left at the end of Eastern Road
10. Avoids the top deck of buses during Foreign Student Season

I'm not convinced that the alleyway that Lesley Ash (Steph) gave Phil Daniels (Jimmy) a knee trembler in was ever actually filmed in Brighton. I'm certain i heard somewhere that its a myth that it was down East Street.

They know where the naughty underwear shop is between the town hall and west street!

They know how to drive from Hove to the Marina without using the seafront!

After being on the very poor Quadrophenia tour, I for one are convinced that it is the alley and the bin shed. The film even has a Choys sign in the backgound.

The only real fact that I found on the tour was that Alan Curbishley has a very, very breif speaking part in the film.

Ahh Corporation buses, how very working class that sounds!! My favourite was the number 11 from Hangleton into Brighton taking in the posh houses around Hove Park and Dyke Road enroute.

Loved the colour of these old buses

They have an overinflated sense of self worth because they happen to have been born somewhere currently experiencing economic and cultural vibrance.
